Was writing for Dime Magazine's website since December 2012 and was offered a paid gig in Feb. 2012 by Pat Cassidy (Co-Founder).

The payment process was always strange as I would submit an invoice to Pat then 30 days later I was supposed to be paid. The 30 days turnaround was never met. Also I would not receive a check in the mail - money would be wired to my account. Not directly deposited, wired.

I never signed a contract - was never asked to - but our payment agreement was outlined in emails with Pat Cassidy.

Was contacted through email by Pat in August and told that I would have to hold off on my regular writing as they were having money issues and could not pay me but once the NBA season started back up at the end of October. Was told by Pat: ""We also still owe you for work that has already been completed, right? That will obviously be taken care of as well."

This statement was never upheld as I still have not been paid despite several emails to Pat Cassidy.

I am planning on filing a case in small claims court and hope to be working with a collection lawyer.

For having such a well known basketball site and magazine it is very shocking to know that they have shady business practices.

Still waiting on payment from Josh Gotthelf and Pat Cassidy of Dime Magazine

AUTHOR: AP - ()

POSTED: Saturday, June 22, 2013

It has been close to a year and I still have not recieved payment from Josh Gotthelf and Pat Cassidy from Dime Magazine.

My claim with the New York State Labor Department went through and the investigator working on my claim has contacted Josh and Pat several times. Josh told him over the phone twice that he will be mailing a check. The investigator nor have I ever recieved this check.

Very shady of Josh Gotthelf to lie to the New York State Labor Department. Is Dime Magazine still under extreme financial burdens like they told me close to a year ago? How has the company remained in business for close to a year if this was the case?

I have contacted both Josh Gotthelf and Pat Cassidy numerous times asking to be paid. They are both well aware of the claim with the New York State Labor Department but this does not seem to concern them. How can one operate a business like nothing is wrong when they have open claims against them with the New York State government?  It is all very strange and disheartening.

Dime Magazine has a good standing among the basketball world but it seems like both Josh Gotthelf and Pat Cassidy are involved in shady business practices behind closed doors.

Following up on first report

AUTHOR: AP - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 27, 2013

It has been well over 6 months since I was supposed to be paid and I am still waiting.

After trying to reach Pat Cassidy, I finally received a response on 11/28/12 after telling Pat I was consulting with a lawyer: "Were not in a spot to pay it all right now. Could maybe pay in installments. If that doesnt work, do what you need to do."

I agreed that payment in installments with work. I offered getting paid in 4 different monthly installments which seemed reasonable. Pat got back in touch and said, "I can't commit to an exact number because I'm not sure we can meet it each month. That's the reality of where we are right now." I offered getting paid in 8 installments but Pat still could not guarantee anything.

This was very disappointing.

I find it hard to believe that a magazine company that is able to publish a monthly magazine paid mainly by advertisers could not even pay a monthly payment that was only in the low $200s

My lawyer advised me to file a claim with the New York State Labor Department so I did and there is now an open claim on Dime Magazine but am unsure how long this will take to get resolved.

One of the more interesting aspects of my claim is that on 1/9/2013, Pat got back in touch after weeks of no contact. We actually talked on the phone and he wanted me to take down my Ripoff Report - saying that it was making things difficult to pay me.

I told him I would take it down if he was willing to make 12 monthly installment payments. I have not received a response from Pat since.

Josh Gotthelf (Co-founder/owner) got in touch with me earlier this month and wanted to talk about something but after playing phone tag with him for a day or so he never got back in touch.

As I said in my first Ripoff Report, it is extremely disappointing to find out that a well known basketball website and magazine has extremely shady business practices and are unable to even pay a small bill that is over 6 months old.
