DirectTV hit me 4yrs ago.
Could not beat AT&T's DSL bundle deal at the time. Local cable company service was awful... Internet services was out for days at a time and cable was double the national average for kids programing in Springfield, Mo...
So I ordered the package deal becuse it was cheaper than cable. Called DirectTV to follow through with per-motion. Needed a second receiver sales rep told me I could have an "additional reciever at no additional charge".
When I received the first bill it was almost double what I was paying for cable. Reviewed bill and noticed I was getting charged for second receiver and programing.
Called DirectTV about the issue. If they would not honor I wished to cancel. Was told that I would receive a credit.
Next month bill second receiver was not taken off. Only a credit from previous month. Called back to cancel and was told I could not! Packed everything in original box and returned to DirectTV.
Over 4yrs later I noticed a charge against my credit for $500+ dollars.
Called in to DirectTV Oct. 21st 2013 Rep looked up old service address and verified they received the equipment back. Rep stated I owed $5 that was charged off and owed a zero balance.
Asked, why is their a $500+ bad credit entry on my credit reports?
Pause, then rep stated, oh I see you were charged an "Early Cancellation Fee"
Explained the situation of billing issues and was told nothing could be done except to pay the full amount or re-establish service for another 2yr. contract!
Less than 60 days service service and canceled. Returned equipment and was still charged cancellation.
Have reached the statute of limitations and this bad credit entry is still on my credit report. Should have never been charged an early termination fee when service was don't delivered as promised. Feel DirectTV is in violation of the Fair Consumer Trade Act... If nothing else their business practices are unfair to consumers.

Shame on me for trusting anyone and millions of others who were told one thing and ended up with another. All witten in the good book what will happen to the "nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers" My reputation does not need repair. My concern is others who don't read the fine print and get swindled. Like the rebuttal as it too is rubber stanped by a reputation company! Buyer beware to the comsumer...

Yet again the consumer has "rubber stamped" themselves into a situation. Had you FULLY read your contract with them you would have seen that there is a ETF or early termination Fee. This means because you signed the contract, you are bound by the terms of that contract. Even if you did send the equiptment back, it still wouldnt negate the ETF. Sorry but this is all on you. Instead of working to resolve the situation you cancelled your service. This is WHY you have a ding on your credit. They WILL NOT remove it because YOU cancelled your CONTRACT!!!! You can attempt to dispute it. You can even hire a lawyer as I did. But in the end you WILL have to pay it or file for bankruptcy. You are fighting against a problem of YOUR making, they wont back down.
Point in fact, YOU cancelled your service over a reciever issue and said as much in your own post. They are not in violation of ANYTHING. Sorry but its all on you. You DID NOT read your contract and you DID cancel your service. Dont try and blame them for your failings. The only "unfair" part was on you, you didnt give them another chance to fix your issue. Instead you cancelled your service. They told you when you called that you couldnt "just" cancel. Now you understand why. Maybe this will be a lesson for you. READ WHAT YOU SIGN AND AGREE TO!!! No judge in the world is going to give a d**n that you cancelled because of a billing issue. They will just work the FACTS of the case. FACT: you cancelled your service that clearly shows a penalty of a ETF. End of story, pay up and oh by the way...you have to pay thier lawyers costs. And their lawyers dont come cheap.
