I switched to Dirct T.V. They offered a portable DVD player when you switch. They also offer a $100.00 rebate. I paid them $108.00, I am not sure why. You do not buy any of the equipment. You pay the $108.00 Then they send you a check for a hundred dollars if you send in a form?? stupid!
I emailed them and called them 30 times about the FREE DVD PLAYER. All I received was the run around. Finally I told them I have a judge as a relative. I then received the form you had to fill out to get the free DVD player. I sent it in 8 months ago. I have never heard a thing. It says while supplies last. They have been advertising the free DVD payer for 2 yrs.
WHAT A SCAM!

DVD Player finally did arrive at my house

It took them 7 months, but my Free DVD player from Direct TV finally was delivered January 10, 2008. I'd almost given up. Yes, it did indeed take way too long, considering my form was sent to them back in July 2007. The 3rd party company they used to handle this promotion should be fired in favor of a better one. That being said, Direct TV, despite all other complaints I could make in other categories, is Not Willfully Ripping off their customers. I'd suggest calling them and nicely asking for an update, based on knowing now that some of those DVD players really are landing.

Why bother with satellite TV? It looks like just another bill....

OK, you can BUY yourself a nice portable DVD player/viewer for $200 if you really want one. Of course, few if any will offer an HD picture. Thought for today: the likely "gift" portable DVD player/viewer will probably be a cheapie player that will agravate you more than anything else..
Then you pay (prices for Anderson SC) $55 a month standard or $65 a month for HD TV. You get to watch inane TV in HD. Woo-pee!
$660 a year std TV or $780 a year HD TV when you can buy an HD up-converting DVD player from the OPPOdigital site for $200 (DVI) to $240 (HDMI) including an excellent interconnect. Then rent your DVD's at (ummm) $3.50 each. Watch two (2) DVD's a week for $364/year. So 9.3 months of HD Satellite will pay for the $240 OPPO player plus one (1) year of two DVD's per week.
This is why I did not become interested in Satellite TV. And the various complaints here have done nothing to kindle any interest. Of course, I don't watch sports on TV either- no interest and no time. But I believe you can watch sports on your high speed internet PC. And there are also complaints here about satellite web connections.

I had them do the same thing to me. I called in several times asking about my free dvd player and only on about the 8th time calling in did I need this "form"..they never mailed it to me. Called and called and you will never get your dvd player. They still run their adds on tv all the time about it too and it makes me laugh. How long can they get away with this???
Dont believe those adds you see on tv because they are all false!
