If you are thinking of signing up for DISH satellite, DON'T!!

We signed up with DISH in August 2001. The only reason we picked DISH was because of their "Dishmover" feature, where they are supposed to be the "easiest thing about your move." We knew we were moving in November, so we asked everyone from the customer service rep on the phone to the installation guy, "We are moving in a couple months, does what we signed up for include "Dishmover" service." "Oh yes, yes," was the resounding reply from everyone. "No charge?" we asked. "No charge," they replied.

We get to our new home in VA, and as luck would have it there is already a DISH Network dish there. We picked up the phone, called DISH to schedule someone to come out and install it for us. They told us, "The programming that you signed up for (TOP100) does not include Dishmover, but if you agree to another year of Top 150 we can add Dishmover for $75." Our house was already set up for one receiver so we decided to do without the other receiver, but still had to pay for the 2nd receiver every month.

In May 2002, my husband got promoted and transferred to Arkansas. We knew already about the DISH non-mover service, so we decided to get cable instead. We called DISH to inform them of our move. We told them to bill us for the remainder of our contract (2 months), then cancel.

Yesterday, I get a call from my bank. Thank God! They were concerned because DISH had been trying to take unusual amounts out of my checking account for about a week. The first amount was $600, next $400, then $171.50, then $26.70, then $2 and finally another $2. The $600 and $400 did not go thru because there was not enough $ but I was charged 2 NSF fees. The rest of the amounts are going through tonite.

I called DISH and was on the phone for 2 & 1/2 hours straight with them trying to get this mess straightened out. They said because I moved and left no address change (which is BS because I just got my final bill today, mailed to my current address) they put my account in a non-pay breach of contract status and were deducting my checking account for the amount of the equiptment. They never tried to contact us and admitted they didn't. They said "you automatically go into non-payment status and we aren't required to notify you." I don't want their equipment! We told them we were moving and gave them our new address! I was going to write a check this Friday to pay the remainder of my contract ($82).

Here's the SCAM . . . the only way I could get the $200+ that they had already taken out of my checking account, I had to reactivate service and agree to a 1 year contract of Top 150. I had to accept because their UNAUTHORIZED deduction of $200 left me with no money in my account until Friday. Plus they said they would continue to debit my account in random increments until the full $600 was paid. Get this, I had to pay my first two months in advance with another credit card (another stipulation to getting the $200 back). If I didn't need the cash so bad, I would have told them to sit on it and spin awhile. BASTARDS!

My husband is out of town on business and I have 3 little ones here at home. My two-year-old has two diapers left. My 11 month old has two scoops of formula left. My bank account has been sucked dry by DISH. I thought I had $200 to last me til Friday. The kids and I just got here (to our new house in AR) last week, and I am still unpacking. I can't seem to locate where I packed my checkbooks - I figured I could float one til Friday somewhere.

I was sooooo looking forward to getting out from underneath the DISH ball and chain in August. Now I have another year of HELL-0 with the RIP NETWORK.

Thanks for listening.
