I wish to join others on this site who had a bad experience with Dollar/Thrifty at Munich airport. Fortunately I hired the car through a third party internet company who sorted the problem out for me, though it still cost around $100 I should never have had to pay. I rented in Munich airport in late October 2010 but have just discovered this site!
My credit card was debited for 1000 euros immediately after the car's return. They said I had damaged the front wheel arch. It was damaged but I had reported it to them before leaving Munich. They assured me they had made a note of it, but they had not done so. Like another correspondent here, they had changed my car at the last moment.
This was simply a "rip off". In future I shall ask my third party company not to give me dollar thrifty. Usually car rental at Munich has been great and is very easy but this was a horrible and very time-consuming experience.
