Dr. Joseph Shanklin Prescribed in error powerful drug Cymbalta. Incompetent Doctor and Staff! Clearwater Florida

I dont know what Parker from Clearwater experienced as a result of taking Cymbalta that led to such invective against Dr. Joe Shanklin, but I have some comments in response regarding what I do know.

Dr. Shanklin is the most intelligent, well-informed and caring medical professional I have ever consulted. He has been my psychiatrist for 8+ years. I had several others in two states over the previous 9 years and while all were helpful and professional in their way, Ive found Dr. Shanklins approach to my treatment for bipolar disorder and anxiety, including recommendations of medications, to be without peer.

We do rely in part on the greater training and expertise of doctors when we need help with an illness of any kind. Nevertheless, we have a responsibility to research the drugs or procedures recommended by them until we are comfortable with the risks and advantages to us. Drugs have side effects and a particular one or a mix of them may not work optimally for every patient given our individual body mechanics. Sometimes it takes careful experimentation (on the part of the medical practitioner with our questions and input as a result of our due diligence) to find the right mix at the right dosage to alleviate symptoms or effect a cure.

Cymbalta is a norepinephrine and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor used to treat, among other things, severe depression and anxiety. It has a long list of possible side effects and accompanying precautionary statements that are easily accessed online, contained in Cymbalta brochures, or gotten

from your general practitioner or psychiatrist. Perhaps if Parker had read up on Cymbalta, he couldve been better prepared for the known side effects including reactions when starting or stopping the drug and could have explored other possibilities with Dr. Shanklin. In no way can its failure to work for Parker be laid at the feet of his psychiatrist nor should it have aroused such hostility in Parker that he felt the need to characterize Dr. Shanklin as incompetent.

I have no bias against alternative, homeopathic or non-Western treatments or practitioners, but to date, there are no treatments from those avenues effective against major depressive disorder or disabling anxiety. It is a reckless and dangerous suggestion that Parker makes to steer others suffering from those disorders away from medications that research and patient testimonies show to be effective for many. Psychological disorders can be life destroying. Those of us struggling with them cant always gauge the appropriateness of our emotional responses, especially when unmedicated. Parker may want to consider whether his reactivity might be symptomatic of his now untreated illness. Dr. Shanklin has my great respect and gratitude for the discernment and compassionate wisdom he brings to my treatment and that of his other patients.

Cymbalta is a drug for depression and yes - once you stop taking this drug or any drug for depression the withdrawal symptoms are horrible but not life threatening
I know for I have had these symptoms when I ran out of my medication
