Don Robinson aka Dr. Tax Guy
DO NOT use Don Robinson and Associates. He is a big time crook!!!! Several actors and I have used him to prepare our taxes and though he did get us a decent size return, there was a bigger price at the end. The IRS is finding several red flags on many returns he prepared. Don's thought is hay I can care less if the IRS goes after themI was able to get them as a repeat customer for several years and get more money out of them. Don will tell you to your face that if the IRS ever comes after you then don't worry because he will back you up. After all is that not what an honest accountant is supposed to do??? Wrong..

Don will never return your calls and leave you to deal with the mess he put you into. What does Don do when he prepares your taxes? He claims more then you have asked him to do without letting you know. Now usually this would not be such a big thing one might think? But it is because he exceeds the limit to get you back a bigger chunk knowing that what he has done will flag the IRS. Please don't take my word for it. Go to the Better Business Bureau, NY States Attorneycoming soon the local news. Ask other actors, writers and dancers that have used him in the past. I was first with him in 2002 and now I am being audited twice. So far I own the IRS $4,000 plus back interest from 2005. He claimed things I never reported to him. Don Robinson's service is not worth having to deal with the IRS. This man needs to be stopped!!!

If you are currently using him, I would suggest stopping. Please pass this along.

This is what I sent to the BBB

Don Robinson prepared my taxes in 2005 and made reporting's which I did not authorize. Due to these false reporting's the IRS is now auditing me for 2005 & 2006. As a result, currently I owe the IRS $4000.00. I have a malpractice suit against him for breach of contract. I tried reaching out to him when this first took play but Don has refused to return any of my calls. I am in this mess because he put me here. I have a record of the paperwork I gave him when I hired him to represent me truly and correctly and he has massively changed them without my permission. I did not catch on to this when I signed my tax statement. The IRS pointed out to me that in 2005 $20,000 was claimed on a $40,000 income reporting. I only brought in $10,000 worth of receipts and as we discussed what I could claim, I told him specifically to not claim more than the receipts I am turning in. He disobeyed my orders.

DR. Tax Guy Don Robinson

AUTHOR: T. Roth - ()

POSTED: Saturday, February 08, 2014

There are always two sides to the story and I have to side with the lady making the complaint. I am friends with someone who knows this person and I have seen all the documents Don Robinson prepared for her taxes. Don's assistant states that this woman was expecting too much or did not understand what she could claim. After hearing her side and viewing the documents, I saw photo copies Don's office sent this woman that were appropriate amounts but Don crossed them out and raised the amounts to double her original claim, hence Don caused her to become audited because of poor business practice. That alone told me that Don Robinson is not a business person that can be trusted. I am so glad I decided to go elsewhere.

My friend who introduced me to this lady also had a bad experience with Don Robinson's office. She said from the minute she entered their office she had a bad feeling. They were very unpleasant to her (Especially Don). She stayed with them for two years and also had the IRS contact her for an audit. Don generates a lot of work from the Arts and seems to keep putting actors in jepority. He does get them a huge return, but is it worth it if your audited down the line and have to pay most of it back...Just a thought.

I remember reading about this womans complaint when I was first contating Don to do my taxes and I thought nothing of it because I thought it was an isolated situation. It has now been 4 years since I used Don to do my taxes and I am finding that I am going through the same thing this lady complained about. I too was audited by the IRS and when I called Don to see what he could do (knowing he would charge a fee), it took several calls to even get his feedback. In fact Don never called me back only his assistant. I have been very calm on this matter and his assistant has been nothing but acussing and rude to me. This is now becoming a nightmare and I have to hire an atorney to get this matter resolved.  I am sorry I did not take this lady's complaint more seriously. Those of you now reading this, please beware of D&R Tax Guys. I was lucky because I only used them for 1 year. When I spoke with the IRS they said they had several complaints from clients of his over the past 10 years.

Very BAD Experience With Don Robinson.

AUTHOR: Mae - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 30, 2009

I hired Don Robinson to prepare my 2003 and 2004 Tax Returns. I was audited for both years.
I hired him to represent me for both audits. He NEVER attended the audit--just sent my paperwork to the auditor with no representation. The audit then sat on the auditor's desk for an entire year. When it was finally completed--most of my deductions were rejected because of a mistake on the returns. He told me he was appealing the huge deficiency amount I owed and not to worry. I found out he was doing absolutely nothing when I received a IRS notice claiming they planned to levy my assets unless I paid them the entire amount due. Every time I called his office I got the runaround. Finally, out of desparation, I hired another accountant to help me re-open the audit and appeal it. After three years of trying to appeal both audits, I finally was granted a reconsideration with the help of a IRS Tax Advocate and had a new accountant attend the audits and straighten out the mistakes Mr. Robinson made.
If Mr. Robinson would have done what he was hired to do correctly, none of this would have ever happened. It was a complete waste of my time, energy, and money ever hiring Don Robinson to prepare my returns.

D&R TaxGuys is a Reputable Company with 20 years of Client history to proove it!

AUTHOR: D&r Taxguy Employee - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Sadly when you deal with the public you must deal with some people that seem to have a different grasp on reality than do most normal people. The above report is written by a woman that has used many aliases to file reports against Don Robinson of D&R TaxGuys. This same woman has also left numerous messages with threats on his office phone and finally threatened to harm his person which required a police report be filed with a restraining order. The question is WHY?

Audits freak everyone out. I worked with Don for several years in an administrative capacity and spent a good bit of time on audits. (see http://www.wwwebtax.com/audits/audit_avoiding.htm for more info about audits). Don's tax return audit rate is less than one percent of his clients so he is below the national average rate. The average owed in an audit when Don represents his clients is around $500 and the national average owed is around $3000. Given that almost all of his clients are in the arts with high deductions compared to the normal cubicle employee, that audit rate is a testament to the professional manner in which he conducts his business. The audit process is a no win situation for everyone and it's stressful but Don is professional and even though getting audited can be a nightmare to deal with he will help you through the process. His webpage makes it clear that he does that for a fee and that audit services are not included in his preparation fees. He does prefer to represent his tax returns as long as the client is respectful of the process.

The lady filing this report demanded that Don represent her for free and from the beginning was abusive to the staff and extremely foul mouthed. Complicating matters, she did not respond to the original notices from the IRS and the IRS automatically disallows all itemized deductions if you do not respond in time. Itemized deductions (Schedule A) include all state taxes, charitable deductions, mortgage interest, real estate taxes, investment expenses and professional deductions among others. This lady kept confusing her list of professional deductions with itemized deductions. Your state taxes come from your W-2 and they will be allowed. You just have to go through the process of the audit in order to get the deductions. D&R TaxGuys meets with each client each year either in person or via phone to discuss their deductions. No number is put on the return unless the taxpayer and they discuss it and the taxpayer agrees to it. Each invoice that a client receives with their tax return package requests that the client review the return for accuracy before they sign it and submit it to the IRS.

So to sum it up, people get audited and Don wants to represent any client that gets audited. You need to pay him a fair fee and treat him with respect in order for him to do that for you.

A employee of Don's and I'm not leaving my name because I don't want this lady to do the same thing to me that she has to Don.
