I recently ordered a custom made dress from Dressale.com, an online company in Hong Kong that appeared to have a professional business and a quality product based on their website.  I provided measurements in writing, taken by a professional tailor.  They also called me to verify all custom measurements, yet they made the dress too small, or possibly did not make the dress custom at all, I don't know which, but when I notified them, their response was several email exchanges asking for photos for proof, just an unnecessary time delay.  After finally getting the proof that the dress had in fact been made far too small, their solution was "please take it local and have lining and bra cups removed, sorry for the inconvenience"... How absurd.

I have emailed and had live chat several times with no responsibility taken on their part.  They continue the silly game of "sorry for the inconvenience, please be peaceful"  They will not correct their mistake, they will not accept the dress back, they will not refund my money.  They simply repeat "we understand your frustration, so sorry for the inconvenience"  "Please take local to fix".

I spent $172 for this dress and this is a complete ripoff and I am not the only victim.  I now see numerous complaints about this company.  There has to be a way to stop these people from stealing our money and not providing the quality they guarantee at the time of sale.  Another company doing the same thing and selling clothing that looks nothing like the website is Tidebuy.

Are there no laws to protect American consumers that buy products on the internet?  If a foreign company chooses to do business with American citizens, do we not have any trade laws to protect us from this kind of rip off?  I should think a class action lawsuit could stop these people in China from stealing from us.  What options do we have?  Is there not any restrictions in the Federal Trade Commission to prevent this type of Internet theft?  If they are allowed to sell merchandise to and ship to this country, do we not have any consumer protection laws?

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Maybe not sooo bad

AUTHOR: Alene - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, November 29, 2012

Three months ago, my sister and her boyfriend decided to get marry on Christmas, I helped my sister to purchase a wedding dress online, I searched for a long long time. I had seen so many websites about selling wedding dress, I really don't know which website to choose. Almost every time I search, I can see Dressale.com, I asked my sister to browse this website, she was attracted by the beautiful wedding dress picture, compared with other websites, the price of dressale.com was lower than most of them. My sister and I decided to buy one from them. We made an order on September 10. They asked so many questions about the body size of my sister, they are really careful. We waited and waited, until November 8, we got the package. You are lucky enough for getting your dress on time!When we opened the package, we really saw a beautiful wedding dress just the same as the picture. My sister tried it on, a little bit larger. Maybe because my sister lost weight for preparing her wedding. At first, we were not satisfied about the dress, but my sister liked the fabric and color very much, the quality was good. So we didn't change the dress.I purchased online often, so I was often ripped off by online shops, but this time I'm happy. May be they are not so bad. If you want to have your money back, you have to insist. During the time we talked about the sizes, they seemed kindly.

#1 Consumer Comment

Just looking at the site you can easily spot a scam.

AUTHOR: MovingForward - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, July 28, 2012

I went to the site you claimed was "professional" and it clearly is a compliation of bogus photos and comments taken from other sites from around the web.  The testimonials are not even written well - another indicator that they are fake testimonials provided by the company itself.

There is no way that the American legal system can protect you from yourself. As consumers we have the duty to do our own due diligence on a company prior to buying from it. I'm sorry you were ripped off. There have been complaints about that company and other similar scams for months here at this site.

No one can legislate the internet. If they do - it won't be a good thing for those of us that enjoy our freedom. I hate scams, but getting rid of the internet by legislating it is a worse solution IMO.

Buy local. You support your local economy and the power of the consumer is stronger in a local setting. Supporting scam websites encourages other scammers to get online and do similar things because it works against people not paying attention to what they are purchasing. You have the power to stop these type of scams by not supporting them!
