I received a quote from Pristine Van Lines stating that they could move me from Jacksonville, FL to Oxon Hill, MD. It was for $1812. The driver was supposed to call 24 hours in advance to let me know that he was on his way. The day of the move he instructed me that he would be their in four hours.

I explained that we were not ready and after going back and forth he showed up July 14, 2006. After the move was done I told him that I wanted the items delivered immediately. When he left he told us that we would be charged an extra $500 for the move. We said okay and gave him $900 in cash and wrote a check for $297.

On July 19, we asked for the delivery date to be changed. The dispatcher informed me that the items were en route to Maryland and I needed to pay an additional $300. I was outraged and went back to the contract that stated that they had to give me a 36 hour notice call instructing me about the delivery. If I was not ready after they called me, I would be charged the extra money. He said that someone needed to pay for the extra charges and it would have to be me. He told me that my things would be stored in New Jersey because they were already en route to Maryland.

I said ok, but I need to see a detailed list of charges before I agreed to the additional charges. He said that he would send me a breakdown e-mail by 7/18. I never received one. On July 20, 2006, I spoke to Ellie and I explained the situation. She told me that they would get into contact with the driver and I would get a complete breakdown of my additional charges. I told her that I would be charged an additional $800 and I wanted to see a breakdown. She told me that by Monday, July 24, it would be resolved. Four days passed and I did not hear anything, so I called her again. She told me that after two weeks they still have not spoken to the driver and that I was overreacting. She said that I had not paid and I should not be worried. I reminded her that I paid $1197 already and that I was entitled to an explanation of charges.

Pristine Van lines is a very unprofessional company. I have no problems paying what it owed. My concern is when I am given outrageous charges and there is no justification for it. The dispatcher and Ellie were very rude and were unwilling to give detailed information. I did not receive one and I do not feel that I should have to pay an additional $300 because they were not negligent. Moreover, if my estimate went over, I should not get the run around about the additional charges.

My move has unjustifiably gone from $1812 to $2712 without any detailed statement of additional charges. In order to receive my goods without incident, I called to arrange a pickup on August 17. I was told that they would give me three days notice. The dispatcher called my husband on August 23 and said that they wanted to deliver our things from New Jersey at 2:00am. We told him to deliver between 6-7:00am.

The movers arrived on the August 24 and the driver told my husband that they had arrived from Atlanta, GA going up 85N the night before. I found it interesting because the dispatcher lied. On top of it all, our antique record player, sectional sofa, mattresses, and other items were damaged. And I have never received an itemized copy of the additional charges. Pristine Van Lines Company is unscrupulous and unethical. I work hard for my money and I do not appreciate being lied to.
