I rented a dirty cargo van from Tues.-Tues. Dropped it off at a different location. After it was inspected they said they found a small dent. It was dented from the inside, possibly from the contents of the van. Or it could have been there when I first rented it and I did not notice. Basically it was about the diameter of a Quarter and had to be looked at from the side to see it. I did take pictures with my phone and the ding does not even show in the photos. That's how minor it is. They filed an accident report and charged my credit card $500. That is my car insurance deductable. I did not buy their insurance. They said once the dent is repaired they would just charge me what it actually cost and credit the rest back. They gave me a # to call. 908-497-1957. I called that # and was given another #. 201-342-5500 ext. 209 then another ext. 259. I finally talked to Robert after several attempts and explained the situation. He seemed nice and said he would get back to me. He never did. I kept calling, only to leave messages. So tonight I called my card and disputed the $500 charge. I used to do body work. That ding could be fixed in 5 minutes with a dolly, hammer and rag and without paint work!

#2 UPDATE Employee

Sorry buddy, I don't believe you! WHAT'S "THE E-TOOL??"

AUTHOR: Anonymousanon - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 04, 2008

So here's the deal everyone. I'm calling B.S. on this guy. I think he's fibbing about one or more things. I'm going to quote what this gentleman has said and tell you how it's not going to hold up at all:

"I rented a dirty cargo van from Tues.-Tues."
Either it wasn't really dirty, or this guy said that it was fine as is because he was in a rush.

"Or it could have been there when I first rented it and I did not notice."
This does happen rarely, but regardless you DID initial on the line where it indicated no damage. You legally agreed, so right then and there, you would be denied your claim if you ever took this to court. But I'll continue anyway...

"Basically it was about the diameter of a Quarter and had to be looked at from the side to see it."
Sigh... Consumers out there, we don't charge people for a dent the size of a quarter. That's deemed "normal wear and tear". Next time you rent from Enterprise, ask to see an "E-Tool" [yeah yeah, make your 'tool' jokes]. Seriously though, it guides the employee as to the size of damage necessary to document. The size of dents is roughly the size of a baseball. As to see the tool, you'll completely agree with me. A quarter-sized dent, UNLESS it was an actual puncture, would not be a "DX", or customer damage.

"I did take pictures with my phone and the ding does not even show in the photos."
I don't know about you, but I think even for really great standalone cameras it would be hard to see a dent on a white surface, let alone a much lesser quality camera phone.

"That's how minor it is."
Again, if it were that minor, we wouldn't have pulled this car to get it fixed. Just wouldn't make dollars and sense to us.

"They filed an accident report and charged my credit card $500. That is my car insurance deductable."
Again, we probably did file an accident report, or as I referred to it earlier "DX" (internal name). When you don't take our protection packages (which are **NOT INSURANCE**.. see next answer) and you damage our cars, we go to your insurance company and take your full deductible regardless of how much it ends up costing. If it's under the cost of your deductible, in your case $500, we would in fact release the difference and you would get it back.

"I did not buy their insurance."
WE, ENTERPRISE, DO NOT SELL INSURANCE. We DO sell protection products. No, I'm not getting technical, it's pretty different. What this gentleman could have "bought" was our "Damage Waiver", or "DW" as its called. This would have protected him for damage to or theft of the vehicle, UP TO THE FULL VALUE. In other words, as long as you're not doing anything to void the DW agreement (eg. drunk driving, racing, intentionally hurting the car), it would cost you roughly $10 to $20 per day (price varies by geographical area) to be able to COMPLETELY TOTAL THE VEHICLE. I do understand that with a week long rental that could become too much for some people, but look at it this way: you would have spent between $70 and $140 for the week on the DW. If you would have totaled the vehicle, THAT'S ALL YOU WOULD PAY. But, you dented it, and now we've already taken your deductible. Sometimes it pays to spent a little extra money, if nothing else, for piece of mind.

"They said once the dent is repaired they would just charge me what it actually cost and credit the rest back."
Absolutely true. Nothing incorrect here.

IN YOUR OWN UPDATE:
"It doesn't make sense for Enterprise to put the van in the shop for a minor ding and loose the rental time."
Yeah, you kind of made my point for me.

All in all, I hope consumers out there realize that posts like these usually are people telling half-truths. Cheech, I am sorry that you have had to go through this process, and I hope that even though you have gone to lengths as far as trying to get people not to rent from Enterprise by posting your story on the internet, that you do in fact come back to us. I would also hope that you spent that extra money on the Damage Waiver, and would encourage EVERYONE to! It really is worth it, and you could be the best driver in the world, never gotten in any accidents, but if someone walked right up to one of our cars, with you inside it even, and kicked the door and left a huge dent, guess who's responsible. You. Take the Damage Waiver and Enterprise CAN'T MAKE YOU PAY A DIME (as long as you adhere to the DW agreement, again, eg. no drunk driving, no racing, things like that).

I am disputing the $500.00 charge with Discover, So far i have not heard from Enterprise! It doesn't make sense for Enterprise to put the van in the shop for a minor ding and loose the rental time.
