Prior to working near Chattanooga on a business trip that was supposed to last approximately 24 days I had been seeking accomodations that were within about 35 minutes of our workplace, the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in Soddy Daisy, TN.

My coworkers and I were pretty much free to find accomodations on our own provided we could live on an $85/day per-diem which was to include lodging and meals. Thru a number of phone calls I had located this establishment and made a reservation for the period 4/17/02 thru 5/11/02 for a room with a kitchenette.

It was my understanding that it was supposed to cost me about $30 and change a night. I passed the word around to my coworkers and I suppose because of the attractive price, about 8 of them decided to book rooms there also. Approximately 1 week before our arrival our travel agent, Rosenbluth International, called and got confirmation numbers with firm arrival dates for all of us.

I should have been tipped of the moment I pulled into the parking lot what kind of place this was because the first thing I saw were three 300+ pound men, all naked from the waist up who looked like they had just failed the WWF fitness test, chugging beers in the parking lot.

When I asked two foreign looking characters where the office was I was directed to what has to be the dingiest looking hotel lobby that I have ever seen. It looked more like the maintenance shed. I presented my Amex Card to the skinhead clerk along with my confirmation number and was told that my name was not on the computer to arrive that night and that he had no space for me, but if I called the manager the next morning she might have a room for me.

He then arranged a room for me at a nearby motel, without a kitchen for about $55. So there I was. I was the guy who found this hotel for my coworkers and after having driven 10 hours to get there, I was the one without a room.

The next day I called the manager about 7:30am from the nuclear plant to see what she had available and she abruptly told me that she had nothing available until the following Monday evening which was about 4 days later. I later learned that she lied to me because I talked to one of my coworkers who did get a room the previous night and he told me that he checked out at 6:30am after only one night because he had reserved a non-smoking room and it had obviously been just previously occupied by a smoker.

Being a smoker myself, this didn't bother me so much considering my circumstances, that I was without a room with a kitchen and had traveled to work that day with my bags fully packed, not knowing where I was going to stay that second evening. He told me that although the manager was in the office at 6:30 am he had to bang on the office door repeatedly before she would open it. He evidently told her he was not pleased with the room and basically said he was checking out and finding other accomodations.

This of course was costing her money and I guess when I called her by phone an hour later she was ticked off enough not to offer someone from the same company a room that night even if she had one. To make a long story short, I never did check into the Extended Stay America and probably will never book a room with that chain again.

I heard nothing but complaints from my other coworkers who did stay there and I apologized to most of them for even suggesting such a place. One of them, a female, also had to find other accomodations for one or two nights because they had given away her room as well. Another individual complained that his room stunk like high heaven and he couldn't figure out why until one night he heard a loud crash and woke up to find the cover off the air conditioner where about 6 partially filled beer bottles had fallen out.

There seems to be a complete lack of housekeeping at this rat-trap. My coworkers only reported seeing one maid to clean at total of approximately 120 rooms. Another individual complained extensively about bugs, specifically ants and c**k-roaches. I suppose I should thank my lucky stars that I was turned away. This has to be the most mis-managed motel I've ever been to.

The employees (especially the manager) lack common courtesy and are technically incapable of taking reservations and storing them on their computer in an accurate manner. I eventually did find a room with a kitchen at a much higher price ($55.00/nite) about 2 miles up the road, but to add insult to injury, I was doing my expense report about 10 days later and checked my Amex account and found out that this lying scumbag manager that runs this *%$#hole had the audacity to charge my Amex account a no-show charge of $43 and change.

I immediately called the Amex complaint line and told them the whole story and even told them to call Rosenbluth to get their side of it. I also told Amex not to honor that charge in any way. If they did, I politely told Amex that we will be arguing about this charge 5 years from now because there was no way in hell that I would ever pay it. If anybody owed anybody money Extended Stay America - Chattanooga owed me. Anyway, Amex must have seen it my way because they credited the $43 back to my account.
