Mark J. Minton of Family Log Homes has continually avoided our calls and neglected to repair/complete damaged/unfinished areas of our home. After numerous promises, he has now taken on other projects and does not return our calls. We have structural damages with the logs that make up our home, unfinished plumbing areas and incorrect plumbing setbacks. We also have plumbing mistakes (pipes not connected, missing sewer vent, missing roof flashing) and damages, unfinished painting and staining, defective windows (broken locks), decking material that has been damaged and improperly installed, numerous areas of the home that were unable to pass inspection, very poor drywall installation with large gaps between the drywall and logs, incomplete drywall with ragged edges and insulation left sticking out. The hard wood floor had to be re-done 3 times before they were in an acceptable state.

The 1st couple times resulted in dirty footprints sealed over, and globs of sealant spread in uneven amounts. Some of our personal property was stolen from the house while it was being constructed, and our personal restrooms were constantly being used and plugged up with human waste by Mark's subcontractors even though a portable toilet was provided.

It is our thoughts that Mark hires the cheapest labor he can find and in turn the craftsmanship of his work is poor and unreliable. The 2 plumbers that he hired (1st one ran off and left the job unfinished, and the second one did not complete the repairs needed and left our home open to the elements of nature.

As a result, we came home to rain water streaming down our walls, destroying the dry wall, floors, and interior studs in our master bathroom, where the original plumber didn't put in a (required) sewer vent. There are so many more additional problems that we could write about. We will begin legal proceedings on this guy.

This response is based on factual events that occurred during the process of
building Jennefer Beidiant's log home.

1. Family Log Homes never contracted to build or supply any materials or labor to this project.

2. Family Homes Inc. our construction company did agree to build Jennefer Bediant
and her Boy Friend Brad Selvig a Log Home in Cascade Idaho.

3. Brad Selvig an employee at Inter mountain Orient a lumber, Brokerage company in
Boise Idaho had solicited our business to be one of our suppliers. We engaged in the
purchase of very large quantities of log products to supply our customers. Brad insisted that he was giving us such a great deal . We should allow him to build his
home under our construction company who was qualified a a builder with Idaho Independent Bank in Boise. Brad in order to save money wanted to supply all of his
own materials. He Did! We did not profit in any way off of this project!

4. The Logs which Brad himself supplied for his own project,an 8" Swedish cope log, the corners were not notched to fit properly the Moisture content was extremely high. This caused the sheet rock to to have gaps due to shrinkage in the logs.

5 Brad Selvig Also purchased and supplied his own Windows were supplied by Jennefers Boy Friend and again their were issues. A tempered safety glass window needed to be in place in the tub shower area. However Brad Selvig procurred a
regular window, His solution safety cellophane. Steve Brown Valley County Building inspector, killed that idea. Stating that the homeowner is creating liabilities that could have serious ramifications in the future.

6. The (Soft) wood flooring was supplied by Brad Selvig, Jennefer Bediants Boy friend It had so much moisture in the wood that it had to be sanded and filled and finished 3 times.

7. Brad Selvig pulled his own plumbing permit and Supplied his own trailer house plumbing. I spoke with the State plumbing inspector and Valley County Building
Dept. and these materials are no longer legal for construction. I questioned the
materials all the way through this project. It is no mystery that reputable plumbers
had the same concerns and actually left the project after having to deal with
Mr. Selvig and Jennefer. Remember! Brad Selvig pulled his own permit, He was
the plumber of record.

8. As to cheap labor Jennefer is right, She has her Boyfriend to thank for that.
We did not have profit built into this job. He was our supplier so why wouldn't
we work for free.

9. In closing! All of those logs that we purchased from Brad Selvig at the time
all of this was taking place, had to be re- milled in the field and tens of thousands
of dollars on each project had to be spent because of Mr. Selvig and his negligence
as a supplier. I have a complete list of home owners that were affected by this
that we personally took care of. One of Brad Selvigs competitor's came to our
rescue and sent two truck loads to their mill to re-mill our product because none
of the tongue and groove profile would fit together. This made for a lot of frustration for our customers our carpenters and sub contractors. Many hours
of hand planing and router work in the field. One truck load was so bad that we
had to take a loss on the materials and sell them at Musick and Sons Auction
at Fire Wood Prices. By the time we got into Brad and Jennefers house our
frustration level was at it's peak. We just figured it was typical Brad Selvig
protocol. If he wanted Junk in his own home he was entitled to it! Did we take
the extra initiative to hand mill and scribe as we did with our other customers?
After he had cost our company tens of thousands of dollars per project. Absolutely
Not! Should we have? Perhaps! Lawsuits may have been the appropriate thing
to engage in with Mr. Selvig. We still have that opportunity! I may considder
it an option at this point. He hurt a lot of people with his negligence including
his own family. Jennefer has Brad Selvig to thank for her un happy experience
be ware of the enemy within.

10. Brad Selvig is currently selling wood at the Wood Source in Boise Idaho
for all interested parties, and is also the owner of the End Zone a bar located
on Broadway Avenue in Boise. Although rarely at the office.

11 The above information is being made available for all of the sub contractors
and clients he has affected in the past and possible future clients. He can normally
be found at his bar, The End Zone bar on Friday afternoon after 5 pm.

12. There is two sides to a story!

Respectfully

Mark J. Minton
President

Your cabins are not in question

Regarding the first three comments to the report of "J". A builder may have done a wonderful job for you, but that does not mean that for one reason or another he did not do a bad job for someone else. As an aside, those 3 comments had a strong smell of "shill report".

Family log homes built me 3 quality homes: Reputable builder!

AUTHOR: Travis Walker - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 17, 2008

I had hired Family Log homes to build 3 cabins in the Cascade/Donnelly area 3 years ago and they have been completed and sold as to date. The owner of Family Log Homes, Mark Minton, is a very ethical man and very honorable. He will do what he says. He has never misled or lied to me. I can't say these things about many people. Travis

Mark Minton and Family Log Homes built an outstanding cabin for us.

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 24, 2008

Mark and Family Log Homes built a beautiful 3600 square foot log home for us in MeadowCreek Resort, near New Meadows, Idaho. The quality of materials, craftsmanship, level of professionalism, and finished product were top-notch. While I feel for Jennifer or anyone who has issues with a contractor, what she reported in 2005 was definitely *NOT* indicative of the quality of our log home or any of the other homes we viewed before we hired Mark and Family Log Homes to build. I would recommend speaking with Mr. Minton and viewing his product yourself rather than relying on this website to decide your builder for you.

Mark Minton did great work!

AUTHOR: Blessed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 23, 2008

I have seen some of the completed projects by Mark Minton with his company Family Log Homes. The homes I have seen are beautiful with outstanding craftsmanship. Perhaps taking a look at some of Mr. Minton's projects that have been completed to the customer's satisfaction, the Rip Off Report posted in 2005 will be an obvious contradiction to Mr. Minton's ethics and professionalism.
