In October, 2005, a $90 routine break maintenance was done and a $90 brake fluid flush was "recommended" ["very dirty, obviously hadn't been done in quite some time"]. I ordered the brake flush.

One week later, had to return car, after Firestone admitted to installing "wrong" part.

One week after that, my car broke down 40 miles from home, had it towed to ANOTHER Firestone in the town 40 miles from home. Their diagnosis: the initial installation of the "wrong part" had caused the breakdown; cost to fix: $600. Cost to rent a car for the week: several hundred more dollars.

To add INSULT to INJURY, the second Firestone recommended a $90 brake flush, "as it was obvious the brake fluid hadn't been changed in quite a long time" (I didn't tell them that FIRESTONE COSTA MESA ON 17TH STREET had just charged me for the service two weeks prior). WHO'S LYING?

I sent a certified letter to FIRESTONE COSTA MESA ON 17TH STREET IN OCTOBER,2005, demanding payment, along with an outline of my next steps:
1)This filing and many more
2)suing them in small claims court.
As of today, December 18, I haven't heard from FIRESTONE, and I have not received my refund.

As I prepare for the lawsuit, I will create a BLOG so all AROUND THE WORLD can follow a running diary of the non-action FIRESTONE COSTA MESA ON 17TH STREET is taking to do the right thing in my case.

I will update this when I finally get my money.

SITUATION RESOLVED

AUTHOR: Don - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 26, 2005

The Firestone Claims Department contacted me immediately after the post on this Website. It was all a mis-understanding; The service outlet had misplaced my original letter.

The 800 number directly to Claims is on the back of each receipt; within a week the situation was resolved to my satisfaction.

Thanks, Rick (at Claims) for helping out!

Need to provide more info before saying you were ripped off. What is a routine brake maint? Did you have your front pads changed, did you have your rear pads changed...what part was installed that was wrong? Why after the correct part was put on did it still break-down? And what does break-down mean when referring to brakes...do you mean the brakes weren't working properly?...did the brake pedal start going down to the floor?...Surely you don't mean that the vehicle quit running after brake work was performed. As for the brake fluid flush, if the brake fluid was actually as dirty as Firestone said the 1st time, even after the 1st flush there still may have build up on the walls of the brake hoses and brake lines. If some type of power flush was done it could have easily loosened more crud that may have bonded to the hoses and lines. I will say $90.00 seems a bit much to have brake fluid flushed, unless it was some type of power flush...Another major retail auto center only charges $32.00 for a brake fluid flush, but it is not a power flush. Maybe you did get ripped off, but before proclaiming it to the world...I think we should know all the details.
