I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit score, and I applied for a credit card with First Premier Bank. I was on Free Credit Report.com checking out my credit score last weekend, and decided it was imperative to own a cc again. After navigating the site for awhile, I noticed an ad for First Premier Bank. I assumed that if Free Credit Report allowed them to advertise, they must be legit.

After applying, I decided to google First Premier, and that's how I found Ripoff Report.com. Needless to say, if I knew about this site beforehand, I would have known better than to apply, and would have looked elsewhere.

After reading the first few pages of reports on here about First Premier, I'm now terrified. I applied for this card solely to rebuild credit from mistakes I made when I was younger. I only wish to buy gas with it a couple times a month, pay my bill on time, and build credit. It doesn't even sound like this is possible to do after reading some of the reports. I've read about people paying well in advance of their due dates only to get late fees on their next months statements.

I don't care about the initial fee's upon activation, or the monthly fees associated with this type of card. I know thats the nature of these types of cards, and part of the game of rebuilding credit.

Does anyone have anything positive to say about First Premier? What are my options from here? I have not yet even received the card, so do I have the choice to not activate it upon arrival? I read a report on here of someone doing that, but it still showed up negatively on their credit report.

Money isn't an issue really, as I really only need the card for credit building purposes. Do I send large payments before I even get my bill to create a surplus and ensure no late payment fees?

If I am able to get out of First Premier, how or where do I go about finding a reputable credit building card?

HELP!! HOW DO I GET OUT OF THIS??

AUTHOR: Bella - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, November 08, 2009

I just made the mistake of applying and getting accepted for a First Premier Bank credit card online, after receiving a letter in the mail. Unfortunately, I didn't realize until after I applied that it is a scam. How do I get out of this?? They will be sending me a card in the mail and they charge $175 annual fee!  I was told to call their Customer Service line tomorrow, but I am not sure they will be cooperative, since I did a web search on them and found out many people are being scammed by this company and their Customer Service is rude and pressures them.

Will I be obligated to pay this exhorbitant annual fee just by virtue of the fact that I got accepted for this card? Or do I have to activate the card and actually USE the card to be charged the annual fee?

They will not wipeout your money from your checking account
I never had any problems with First Premier Bank
I always payed on time

You have to becareful when reading what someone has posted
You do not known if they are just trolls
Coming to cause trouble or people that are ready telling the true
Plus you have some people who mess up and do not aways post the true

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

NEVER give your checking account

AUTHOR: Benn - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 14, 2009

Never give out your checking account infomation, unless you want to be wiped out out of every penny that is in there. If you don't believe me that this can and may happen?.....then read others that have done this mistake. Never give post dated checks since they can and may cash them all at once.

This remark from an employee is got to be the dumbest thing that I have read in a long time. YES, you may send a check when the payment is due but for only the amount you specify on the check. YES, you may send a bank draft or a money order. YES, you can pay with another credit card or debit card for the amount that you specify.

BUT never give anymore pre-access to any accounts that you own unless you don't want any money in there and will have to close those accounts at a later time. Again if you don't believe me, then read what others have posted.

Key - pay on time EVERY month

AUTHOR: Blugoodi - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 24, 2009

I've worked at Premier for 4 years in the Collections Dept. I could go into all the fees and why the fees are there and the benefit for you having this card. But instead I am plain and simple. Make your monthly payment, on time EVERY month. This will avoid the late fee. If you do not get a bill - you can access your account info online or call Customer Service. As with any credit card, if you miss your due date there is a late fee, which increases the balance. On average the credit limits I see are $250 - $300, making the monthly pymt approximatley $25. Making your payment on time EVERY month is the key and will help re-establish credit. For more of an impact - making all payments on all bills that report to the credit bureau on time will help. Another way to help with credit scores - if you are able to - each month pay the balanace in full. Granted, the balance will be close to $200 at first due to the start up fees - pay it off or pay it down, but when you can pay the balance in full. There is 'Premier Pay' that you can sign up - call Customer Service - you have sign some papers to give authorization to have your minimum payment taken out of personal checking account 2 days before your due date. This is a great way to make sure your bill is paid on time every month - and there is NO FEE for this. :) Surprising I know. :) Feel free to ask me any questions - I will try to answer to the best of my ability. Again, I've been in the Collections dept for 4 years, so I am very familiar with payments, due dates, credit bureau reporting, fees, etc.

I recently recieved a credit card from this company and was outraged at the fees, so I decided to type a letter, sign it and mail it to them. I stated that I did not want the card, and would appreciate it if they cancelled my account and put my balance at 0.00.

A few days later, I recieved a account summary from them, stating my balance was 0.00 and my account was cancelled. They were very prompt, and when I get back on my feet, I'd love to have their credit card. They seem to be on top of their company, no matter how many people are dissatisfied with them. If you are unhappy with the fees and have never used the card, write them and I'm sure they'd be happy to cancel the card for you. Good luck.

problem with response

AUTHOR: Benn - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 29, 2009

If you are the victim of identity theft...then why are you trying to "rebuild" your credit. You must have filed a police report on this problem right? Then legally you are not responsible for what the crime (running up debt not incurred by you) so my question is why the need for a new credit card? Rebuilding credit that while at the immediate front was destroyed, was not due to you so there was no need to get a card thru First Premier in the first place. When all the investigation and work of disputing the unlawful charges are done, your credit was not harmed. You just over reacted to a crime there. And lastly what is the need for a credit card anyway? I got rid of the only one I ever had and life didn't stop for me. I still got a house loan with my fair credit (fixed rate in the high 5% for 15 years) and the world as I see it is still turning).

Wait! Don't Worry!

AUTHOR: Roxanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 28, 2009

I went through identity theft a few years ago and had to find a way to build credit back up. I was told about First Premier and was hesitant like you are now. I've read about the ripoffs from different companies and went into this with my eyes open, if you will. I got my first card with them a couple of years ago and got a second card last year. I have been hit with the over the limit fee by mistake. Mine was that I had enrolled for the online access while being so close to the limit. This fee threw me over the limit before I got my payment in (after setting up the online to make the payment). The gentleman I talked to explained how it happened but was nice about it. He did reverse the charge without any trouble and I haven't had any issues since. They are nice if you call with questions. I always paid my cards off every month until recently and they actaully called to see if everything was ok. I recommend this card! Like the one gentleman before said, people aren't reading the fine print or are lazy.

Some help

AUTHOR: Benn - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 24, 2009

First cancel the card when you get it. While some folks do not have problems (play with a snake, you will get bite some day), is it worth the hassle?

If they play you immediately contact the state financial affairs office in Madison or on the web and file the complaint forms as needed.

Why not get a credit card thru the bank or a credit union? I know my credit union just merged with a credit union their in the Milwaukee area and they should be able to help you with a credit card or a secure credit card. A local business and a much more friendlier environment to work with.

Why not local I ask. Try them first and don't play with snakes.

First Premier is by far the worst

AUTHOR: Tony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 17, 2009

Everything that I have read that is negative on this site, to my experience, is true. In addition, have fun if you cancel this rip off credit card with a remaining balance. They called my house 19 times last Saturday. That has to be illegal. Harrassment comes to mind, for one. I have had the card for 1+ year, and thet would not move my payment date so that I would not be late and get whacked $30 late fee every month. They are ignorant acting on the phone, also. As if you owe the representative on the phone the $$$ personally. They are low class in every aspect. AVOID DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM AT ALL COSTS....Or you will be sorry you did later on.

Pat, RELAX!! I have 2 accounts with First Premier, and have never had any problem whatsoever!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 17, 2009

Pat,

The first thing I have to say, is you can NEVER determine the credibility of a business by where they advertise. Advertising goes to the highest bidder. Very rarely are advertisers "approved" or "endorsed" by the media in which they advertise.

Second, for the most part, the ONLY complaints on here regarding First Premier are by those people that were too lazy and stupid to fully read the offer which disclosed the terms and fees, PRIOR to applying for the card.

The problem nowadays is that people just do not read, or use common sense, then they want to scream RIP OFF!

First Premier serves the purpose they advertise. They are perfect for rebuilding credit.

AUTHOR: Katie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 16, 2009

Just to help you out, if you are for any reason worried because of what reports have said on this site, use it at your discretion. First premier does have a 30 day gauranteed, even ppl on this site claim to try to use that. Now You clearly read the terms and yes we are legit, Now if you still feel uncomfortable about anything, even when you get your card, you have a 30 day sastifaction gauranteed. Meaning If you are not completely sasitified for any reason you can cancel, NOW as long as you do it with in 30 days from your APPROVAL DATE (not the day you got the card in the mail, JUST TO BE SAFE) and you charged nothing, you will be refunded the fees. Meaning you owe nothing for the upfront fees of $95, $29, $48, $7 (or some fees may be different in other offers)

Now alot of ppl have talked about late fees being attached and how the statement gets to you 2 weeks before the due date...if you think about it a lot of companies are like that, I have a few cards and they all seem to be like that. Options you have if you don't want to be late, is when you get the statement turn around and mail your payment in, maybe it was a way for companies to get you to call in and make payments, cause obv they do make money off that...Now in premiers case, you can spend $11 doing that with a live person, or $7 for automated (internet, automated CS) Now remember the postmarked date doesn't mean anything. If my bill is due the 20th and I sent the check on the 17th, ya its probably going to be late, Allow 5 business days for processing mail,(it's life) Even when I use my bill pay with my checking company, It always says it can take 5-7 days to get to the company. Otherwise premier does have an option, where they deduct a payment for you ever month from a checking or savings account FREE OF CHARGE. (aka ACH) And you know you will never be late. and you can just say "oh i want my payments to be $40" and then say 4 months down the road you want to make it higher or lower you can. or you want to change month to month you can. Just make sure you give them the information

Now Can Premier help you? If you are truely looking to rebuild your credit then yes this is the card for you, if you want monthly reports and a great APR. Then stick with it. Because if you allow yourself to work for what you want, you can obtain that postive credit.

Now in hands of people who think its a ripoff for the fees. Then maybe its not right for you, Premier does disclose all information in the mailer, and when premier does the applications (over phone) they will ask if you have questions about the fees, and disclose at the end if you understand all the terms. Read them it'll help you out alot on understanding the card and how it works.
SO yes premier do target ppl who have a little better credit now, (wells that the economy for you and the way the credit industry is) If you are a fair credit score. and you think you don't deserve this card. Well the credit bureau says you qualified due to something in your credit file. What I suggest though, just from my personal experience. I had a 673 credit score, which well i screwed up in my college days, i was at a 720..Well I started to get offers from premier, but personally I won't take them because I dont think it will help me. I just had a lot of accumlated debt. If i pay that debt off My score is goin to change. Now adding another card wouldnt have helped me. Its another debt to add in. So please me smart on your choices. If you know you are paying off ur other cards and you want to use this as a little bit of a booster then do it. But if you have alot of accumlated debt, and your trying to pay it off, don't add anymore...

ALSO, one last note. If you are a consumer used to low aprs, high credit limits and no fees, and are receiving Premier Offers. Take a look at your credit, maybe you aren't bad off.. But mim credit limit being $250 and you say well I have cards that have $15,000 line, Make sure you not maxed out..Because the reason why you are getting the offer then is cause you are KILLING your credit by having the bad debt ratio. Its going to drop your credit like a fly, how do i know? because it happened to me. High credit limit card, got out of hand (due to college and expenses) got caught up, ex. had a 6,000 limit card, my balance at one point was 5,500..and same with maybe 2 other cards. 1,000 limit, maxing to 800-900...My score before was a 720 in about a year it dropped to 673. Thats alot of points.

With the economy the way it is, you have to make every decision very thorough. Be smart, get into things you know you can handle or know you want to work it. Other ppl who 2nd guess after they applied. Yes it may show as a closed account and that probably will affect your credit in some way (depending what ur credit is already like), but when you agree to apply you are agreeing to the terms. Thats why they are sent to you with the offer and as courtesy again when the card comes if approved.

I do believe Premier is a good company, and it had been in business with helping credit changelled consumers since 1989.. If you don't believe it they almost have 4million customers nationwide. 4 millions customers verses, 500 articles about how premier is a scam or ripoff...I say thats pretty good. I do understand some complaints ppl do have on this site, and It's very unfortunate that has happened to them. And some of it all may be true, there are alot of departments with premier! But I hope everyone will treat you with respect.

If you read thru this, I hope it helped in some form and if not I'm sorry I couldnt have been better help to you or anyone else. Everyone is clearly entitled to their opinion, and I'm certainly not going to deny anyone that right!

Thanks!

30 days and other info
