Florida Technical College Deland Beware Veterans DELAND, Florida

I am a U.S. veteran from the Marine Corps and I recently attended Florida Technical College in Deland to become a medical assistant with an associates degree. I am fully covered 100% under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. I began my class on September 26, 2011 and I dis-enrolled on February 2, 2012. I had just moved to Florida with my husband and son right after we both got out of the Marines, so I wasn't aware of how this school really works. I knew I wanted a good education and Florida Technical was right down the road from me.

I took only 4 classes when I decided that I wanted to go to a real college to become a nurse instead so I decided to dis-enroll. I made sure that there would be no loose ends with leaving this school and even spoke with Alex Rodriguez, the school director and he told me I was fine to leave with no charges. A month later or so, I received a collection notice that states I owe Florida Technical College Deland $2,000+dollars. I knew that I didn't owe them a dime so I contacted the VA to make sure that it wasn't the VA that I owed which it wasn't.

I went to that school and spoke with student accounts and come to find out, they charged me for medical fees such as shots which I didn't receive because I gave them a copy of my medical records from the military. I have charges on there also that are after the date I dis-enrolled. They also charged me for an extra class that I didn't take and on my ledger card, there are many many discrepancies such as a credit to me for that was supposed to be a stipend check that I never received. Under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, they cover up to $17,600 in tuition and fees a year for private schools which Florida Technical is consider a private school. My charges are way under that limit.

Florida Technical College Deland did not report the correct amount of charges to the VA that I was charged for, therefore leaving me with an outstanding balance that they say I owe. Now they have given this to collection agencies and I am now being harassed by  the collection agencies. By the way, I also have never received a letter from this school stating my outstanding balance I supposedly owe. Please be aware veterans! DO NOT go to this school! I am not the only one with this issue.
