All of this arguing back and forth over the accreditation of FMU is pointless, the fact of the matter is FMU knowingly and falsely mislead students to believe they either had SACS accreditation or as they told me, they would have it by the time I graduated. When in fact they spent the money that they said would be used to get SACS accreditation to build a new campus in Pompano Beach. This information was given to me by an instructor at FMU. And I quote,"We will not be getting our SACS accredidation because they spent the money on the new campus."

I transferred to AIU-Weston from FMU in April of 2004, and after being @ AIU and not having a problem for the last 4 months all of the sudden my financial aid lender sent my funds for my current semester to FMU. Why and how could this have happened you may be asking yourself, well let me tell you. I called my lender to find out exactly just that.

How could they have made such a stupid mistake when for the last 2 semesters they have allocated my funds to the correct school. My lender then informed me that they do not arbitrarily disburse funds, so how did this happen was my question. The response came that the school must request the funds from the lender. So now my question to you is, WHY, after 4 months is FMU requesting funds from ANYONE in MY name?

They are nothing but weasels @ FMU and I for one am glad I got out when I did. So do yourselves a favor, along with checking out your schools accredidation make sure your financial aid lender knows WHERE you are attending school. This will be yet ANOTHER nightmare caused by FMU that I will have to straighten out.

class action suit against FMU that will affect around 11,000 students.

AUTHOR: Carla - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 20, 2004

Thank you for your post Sarah it was very informative. In case I wasn't clear I never left AIU. I was at FMU for a year and a half before I found out the truth. I am still at AIU, and I love it. I will be graduating with my Bachelors Degree next year, and AIU accepted all but 8 of my 60 credits I had earned at FMU. Then I plan on continuing my education and get my Masters Degree from a reputable school like NOVA or LYNN. Your post was very enlightening and might straighten it out for all the others who want to stand up and champion for FMU. And yes there is a class action suit against FMU that will affect around 11,000 students.

AIU, A Great Alternative

AUTHOR: Sarah - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 19, 2004

In response to the obviously biased and unresearched comments of Marc, I would like to educate folks on AIU.

I have worked in proprietary education for a number of years, including AIU. For those of you who don't know what that means, a proprietary school is one that functions in a private capacity, as a company. Examples of this are FMU, AIU, Keiser, etc.

FMU is in trouble because of exactly what Carla complained about: they mislead students to believe that they would have a SACS accredidation in order to lure students to enroll. In fact, in case you are unaware, there is a class-action lawsuit against FMU for this very reason. Carla, I can't imagine why you would leave AIU in order to attend FMU...

AIU was granted a TEN YEAR ACCREDIDATION RENEWAL from SACS. Do you understand the signifigance of that? That is an impressive indicator from SACS that AIU is doing something right. It is very unusual fro a school to be able to recieve a renewal for ten years, most schools only are only granted 5-year renewals (including BCC, Miami-Dade, Purdue, Indiana University, to name a few).

ALL professors at AIU have Master's Degrees or PhD's in their field from regionally accredited universities. Most of the professors also teach at schools like NOVA, FIU, FAU, and Barry. This, of course, is the sign of a school that is concerned about the quality of the education of its students.

In all, it is unfair, irresponsible, and just ridiculous to compare a school like AIU with FMU. AIU offers a good alternative to students that are tired of the relentless nonsense that they encounter at BCC and Miami-Dade (REAL schools-right?). IN fact, about 70% of students at AIU are transfers from BCC and MDCC. How about that...

Marc, before you make such outlandish posts, you should do some research.

Carla, I think that AIU would welcome you back.

Do your homework Marc

AUTHOR: Carla - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 17, 2004

Marc,

If you had done some research you would know that AIU is SACS accredited and has been since 1987, so no it hasn't had the accredidation problems that FMU has had. The only accredidation problems that FMU has is that they lie about having it, so that they can continually rip off their students, and steal their money to give them a 9th grade education at best.

FMU is a close cousin to AIU

AUTHOR: Marc - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 27, 2004

Carla:

While your financial woes are against FMU, which is a substandard educational institution (I am being kind), you should know that AIU is not far behind. Your hope of securing a job after graduating from FMU or even AIU are remote to nil. Sadly, students only learn this after spending tens of thousands of dollars on a sub-standard education. Students would be better served going to Broward Community College and then on to a state college/university or a private university such as Nova Southeastern University - these are "real" colleges and universities. You cannot possibly think that FMU and AIU have any semblance to a real college or do you? Check around.

Most of the students at FMU and AIU have been wooed by sleek marketing campaigns to get you and your money into these institutions. Most students do not have the requirements for other schools, but these schools will take them and their money. In turn, little is really asked of you. I know one student at FMU who actually thought that they should get an automatic "A" because they paid their tuition.

Regarding the accreditation issue. Every student should take the time to check to see if their college or university in Florida is accredited through SACS. If the school claims they are in the process, take a walk. AIU has had the same series of problems with accreditation, but not to the extent of FMU and others. Go to a real school. I hope you have better luck.
