Well, thankfully, I didn't get ripped off, but I'm posting this as a warning for others to not fall for this scam. There is already one report on here from someone who DID get ripped off by this organization.

I need work, but am semi-disabled. I also have no vehicle, so I went looking for telecommuting positions on Indeed.com, as recommended by my cousin, who telecommutes for the insurance industry. She told me what to look for, but when I saw the ad by Genesis Data Solutions (advertised as "construction - administrative"), I liked the sound of it and applied.
I received an email back from an entirely different company (Karver Connections) and an entirely different contact name than the ad had shown, thanking me for my interest and laying out the foundations of the position. Mainly, independent contractor, responsible for own taxes, work as little or as much as you want (all of which is an attractive draw). But, then it said the company would not be sending out any tax forms (really? No 1099 which is the form for payments over $600 to independent contractors?) Having worked several years for the IRS, that raised a HUGE red flag for me.  THEN, it said that we were to pay for our own "training materials" - which are, apparently, posted online behind a "login only" accessible site. The fee was $29.95, which isn't much, but still a red flag to some degree. However, I wouldn't mind it if I could find out the company was legit.  Apparently, it isn't. At least one other person has paid the fee and has never received the login they need to access the "training materials". I wasn't told how much the fee was - I found out when I went looking for their website. The domain name on the email didn't exist. Instead, there was another website that laid out all the particulars (virtually identical wording to the email) including how much the fee was. The email said to contact them with questions, so I did - about how they could NOT supply a 1099 form for independent contractors for payments over $600. They never responded. That's when I went looking for reviews. Nothing at all under Karver Connections, but when I went back to the original ad and found the different company name, I was able to find the complaint for Genesis Data Solutions, formerly called Advance Industries. Looks to me like Karver Connections will be their next manifestation as they mutate to avoid detection.

All the contact names are different, too. The name in the other complaint is different from the name in the ad I responded to which is different than the contact name in the email I received in response. It's like multiple personality disorder, except it's voluntary, with purpose, and that purpose is NOT in your best interest. BEWARE!!!  As they always say, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. ALWAYS check things out before assuming anything!!!
