GoDaddy - DomainsByProxy they give you the run around when you make a simple request to transfer your domain, they try to confuse you and to hold onto your domain. Now they say after 10 days of waiting, it cannot be transferred because it is red flagged and it will be on hold for 60 days, just long enough so I will have to renew for another year with them. ripoff Scottsdale Arizona

These companies confuse you, give you the run around, make you wait, then decline what you want, to transfer my domain name.
So I phone again ( the number is not toll free) I am put on hold quite a few times, I have to keep telling the guy my name and number, right after I just told it to him, then I have to spell my domain name a few times (healthbrights), and yes he sounded like he could speak English just fine.
At first, I could not find my domain name in the domains by proxy site, then I phoned and the guy couldn't it either. I said, if its not there and you would not transfer it, where is it? Finally, after another long hold, he found it?
Then he puts me on hold again and finds out it has been red flagged, which means I cannot transfer it for another 60 days, just long enough that I will have to re-new it. After reading the other rip off reports I sure hope I do not have to give them a credit card!
I do wish that these companies would be regulated somehow, as I see they and others (Brightbuilders comes to mind here), have a long history of ripping off people. There must be something the authorities can do?

Yup... Nothing you can really do...

Anne, that's an ICANN recommendation too. The only thing you're safely allowed to change on a domain without bringing up the 60 day flag is the administrative email contact. You can technically still get past that, but GoDaddy has to put in a request at the registry to lift that restriction. They can usually get that within 48 hours if the registry deems it appropriate.
GoDaddy's not perfect, but they've got most of their crap together.

Thanks for your information.
This is what they told me last night, that I had changed some personal information and by doing this, there was a 60 day red flag put on my domain. It is not new, and has not been renewed. All I was trying to do was to log in to domains by proxy, then I asked for the epp number to give to my new company.
I understand about the domain hopping and the 60 days, but my domain is not new, nor has it been renewed, so why are they holding it?

Anne:
My sincerest apologies. I looked up your domain in the whois directory and have seen that you removed the privacy functionality. That is a fine. But removing the privacy does not alter the status of the domain in any way. You are free to transfer the domain to any registrar you wish once the privacy is removed. It does not alter the status and make you wait 60 days to transfer it.
There was no need to renew it as well since you had plenty of time left on the expiration of the domain as well. With that in mind. The only rule that is in place, and it is not a Godaddy rule, it is an ICANN rule that applies to ALL registrars, is that you cannot transfer a domain if it has been registered or renewed within 60 days. This is to prevent registrar hopping.
Again, this is not a Godaddy rule, but an ICANN rule and we and all registrars, including the one that you are planning to transfer to, are bound by.
I hope this helps i your understanding of the situations and please feel free to let us know if we can be of further assistance to you in the future.
