I, too, paid $1.95 to look at what the Grant Research Guide had to offer. I found nothing useful for me after just a few minutes in their website and logged out, never to visit it again. Then a week later I find a charge to my account for the $49.50. When I called the number provided by my bank, they informed me that in addition to the "look-see" they offered for the $1.95, I was automatically enrolled in a free 7 day trial and that, if, after those 7 days, I did not want to be a member anymore, I could have simply called and cancelled. I explained I didn't want a membership, wasn't asked if I wanted a membership and wasn't sent a email confirming that I was participating in a membership. I saw the '$1.95' - the carrot they intended for me to see. Its slight of hand, divert your attention to one thing while they slip your funds right out of your pocket. Any reputable company would be up front and let you make the choice to participate. The $1.95 deal doesn't exist because it requires more from you than just the $1.95. You have to spend your time sitting on hold to make that call - to cancel before or after you've been fleeced for the $49.50. Why wasn't the 'MEMBERSHIP ONLY $49.50 A MONTH' in big red letters. Because they know that people won't select that. To get access to your money, they have to trick you and they do it with the attitude that they got your money - fair and square. In all fairness, I must say that the rep I talked to offered me a partial COURTESY refund to be returned to my account in 7 - 10 days. I hope the company honors her committment to me. I would feel better about the whole thing if the company behaved like they really weren't trying to trick me. Besides, what loss do they suffer in refunding the $49.50 if I did not use any of their services or take any of their time. Karma is coming and bringing consequences with it - in some manner that I will never know. I am certain of this because this operation is morally wrong.
