Great Lakes Credit Union, THEY WILL TRY AND STEAL YOUR MONEY AND HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!! DO NOT BANK THERE!!

Located in Great Lakes, IL this bank used to be given as an option to recruits in Naval Boot Camp...After banking with these people for 4 years now, I recently had to deposit our FEDERAL TAX check via a "credit union service center"...they put the check on hold for 6 days after informing me that I was not an authorized user on the account (this after faxing them a copy of the check stub they requested AND a copy of my general power of attorney!) My husband is currently deployed on a 6-month cruise and had no way of contacting them. The "thing" I spoke with on the telephone basically told me that she didn't care if we closed out the account or not, and then tried to tell me that I shouldn't be writing checks from the account either and that none of the checks I had written out would be honored or paid by them...MY NAME IS PRINTED ON THESE CHECKS AND THE CHECKS WERE PRINTED AND SENT TO ME BY GREAT LAKES CREDIT UNION!!!!!! after this i went to the atm to withdraw what little money we did have left while the ombudsman contacted his command and his ship to get this resolved (they said they would only talk to him from now on after i explained to them numerous times that he is deployed and i have power of attorney) and they took my atm card! Thus leaving our 2 children and myself without any money while my husband is away...we have ALOT of money in the account still, my husband has received permission to call them on 3-2-01 to close out the account and transfer funds to another account somewhere else...i will keep you updated on whether or not they give him any problems or do what he asks them to, i however am not hopeful, i believe they will steal our money and we'll never see a dime! oh and i also did want to say that not only did they send us these checks WITH MY NAME PRINTED ON THEM i was writing checks and they were paying them for over a year before i was suddenly "unauthorized" without them NOT ONCE contacting my husband via phone, email or in writing, so if i was "unauthorized" as they say they should have contacted him RIGHT AWAY so WATCH OUT, if there is a problem they will never tell you. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and VERY BAD policies!! It saddens me that i had to involve my husband's command to resolve something that i could have done if they were willing to ADMIT their mistakes and not be so GREEDY! they have lost mine and my husband's business for good!!!
