i bought a green dot card and after opening found that i would have to provide my ss # and be subjected to their privacy policy , neither of which i wanted to do. i was able to finally get through to someone who took all my information and said i would recieve a refund . that was 2 months ago. they have since changed the phone menu so that i cannot speak to anyone because in order get through i have to provide the card number and the ss#. since i never registered, these are not in their records. Using their help or "contact us" menu gets an automated response.
obviously they will just keep my money. total rip-offs.

The Phone number and email address Green Dot reported is not accurate. They do not want to return money they have fraudulently accquired and do not give correct information for contacting them. The 866-652-4611 is an automated number and the extension x4368 is not a recognized number. The used the email address customeradvocacy@greendot.com but have yet to get a response. My next course of action will be contacting a lawyer.

The phone number you gave works, but when you go to use the extension, you are hung up on. This company will do anything to avoid you reaching them & getting your money back. Because of that you either lose money or they try to steal your money thru fees or other shady practices. They're extremely unethical & criminal in their business.
I have a similar problem, only I did register because I really needed to get some stuff done and saw I could not get a refund at the store, something you don't find out about until AFTER you open the package. I didn't want to register because I wanted to protect myself from online fraud. After all, if I'm purchasing an item or paying a bill with a card that had the money on it, why should you need personal information that really only the government needs for retirement or disability payments? For anyone else, it's a chance to steal someone's identity.
Anyways, I registered my card, made one purchase & my card was locked after that. Can't get a hold of anyone because, supposedly my information doesn't match, which is a crock of crap, since they wouldn't allow me to register at first because I hit a wrong number on my phone keyboard. After i corrected it, the registration went thru. My information is accurate, they just want to keep the money. There are several complaints about this same problem.
I'm filling my own complaint here, going to our local news channel, filing a complain with BBB & will be spreading the word about this business & it's criminal practices, b such as taking people's tax refunds & locking them out of their own card accounts. Both Greendot & Walmart need to be sued, and I'm personally against 99% of the lawsuits out there. This one needs to happen tho because they obviously have been getting away with ripping off people.

green dot contacted me after i wrote this report and cancelled my card and sent a check for the full amount. i notified them as to how hard it was to get through to a person. 866-652-4611 x 4368 is the # they gave me.

Green Dot cards are prepaid reloadable debit cards, federal law requires us to obtain, verify and record your name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, and phone number when you register a Green Dot Card. If this was not the product you intended to purchase and do not agree with providing information to verify your identity or do not agree with our privvacy policy, you can request a refund. Refunds are sent as check using the US postal service and take 2 weeks. If you did not receive it, we can look into it and resend the check. Please email us at Customer.Advocacy@greendot.com with your name, phone number, ticket number(if you were provided one) and a brief description of the issue. We will review and contact you directly to help get the refund to you.
