Greg Stoner and his wife Glenda are the employees from hell. I am posting this here to warn others.

The Stoners were the resident managers of the self storage that I now run. During their one year here they ran up a long distance bill on the company phone of over $17,000. They were mostly calling their relatives in Arkansas. We also discovered that they obtained at least three cell phones by fraudulently passing themselves off as the owners of this business. They ran up another $7,000 in unpaid charges there.

Our facility used to rent trucks for Budget. The Stoners stole some $3000 in cash from Budget and we have reason to believe that one day before they were fired that they sold one of the trucks to one of their friends for $500. (The truck was recovered six weeks later still in the possession of their friend.)

When they applied for the position with this company the Stoners claimed that they had never worked in property management before. I met Greg after he had been fired and he admitted that he and Glenda had worked in the self-storage business for many years. I even found a business card from another self-storage with their names on it.

Since leaving our store, we know that Glenda worked briefly as an assistant manager at an apartment complex. We have received several phone calls about the Stoners, mostly from collection agencies.

The Stoners seem to have ties to Bentonville, Arkansas and may be in that area. In the past they have also worked in California, Arizona, and Nevada. They could be in any of those places.

Greg and Glenda know how to elicit sympathy. When I first met them I bought their stories hook, line, and sinker. I really thought that they were the victims of a rotten boss. But over time I learned that they were the perpetrators of one fraud after another. If you should run across them, believe nothing they tell you until you can verify it for yourself.

This couple sounds familiar.

AUTHOR: Frank - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 24, 2005

I've been renting a mailbox from Granada Self Storage in Austin, Texas for about 10 years. Several years ago a couple showed up there that sound very familiar to your "friends".

They told me one day when I was in there that their car had broken down right by the storage place and that they asked the owner if they could do some work to get some repair money and ended up working there for about 8 months. Funny thing they made a point of telling me a couple of times that they had never run a storage place before. Sound familiar??

They were both nice enough but something about them was very shady. During the time they worked there I had 3 packages "get lost in the mail". I never had a problem with this place before they got there or after they were gone. If fact, they do a really good job at this place. When I questioned them about the packages they would become really defensive.

One day I came to check my mail and the owner was there and I ask him where his employees were. He mumbled something about them disappearing and stealing but he didn't elaborate.

For some reason I think they were from Arkansas but I'm not 100% sure.

I forgot what the lady looked like, kind of thick I think, but the guy was stocky with an arm full of tattoos.

You might try calling Granada and asking for the owner if you are trying to find these people. This may be a regular scam for them.

Dealing with stoners

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 03, 2005

I'm sorry but I just have to respond. Names usually originate historically by one's occupation or some other connection (like Smith are usually have a former blacksmiths somewhere in their familiy history in general). I'd never deal with a stoner...the name implies what you got.

Wonder if they got it from someone in their family throwing stones..being stoned...or deserving a stoning. Hmmm....just really more than a coincidence here I think.
