Purchased a puppy from this breeder in December 2004. The dog was sick and we had to spend $243.33 and the dog was still sick. The breeder was willing to exchange dogs which we did by driving up to Canada (I believe they are currently in Texas). They also agreed to reimburse us for the vet bills, but to this day we have not received the money. Have sent many e-mails, but the latest ones do not receive any responses.

Further, when negotiating then price for the 1st sick puppy, the breeder said she didn't negotiate. I took them at their word until talking with a neighbor who bought one after we did for $100 cheaper. The price for their puppy started out to be the same as ours, but
the breeder discounted the dog.

I think this breeder tries to do the right things, but why would anyone say one thing and do something entirely different. If you aren't going to reimburse the buyer for vet bills for a sick puppy, then don't say you are going to. If you don't negotiate prices, then don't negotiate prices.

As for the sick puppy, the breeder said they were able to find another home. If you buy a puppy from this breeder, you may want to be concerned about the health of the puppy you are buying. As for the 2nd puppy, so far so good.

Havanese by Design - Say One Thing Do Another

AUTHOR: Corey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 03, 2012

I agree with you on one thing...vet bills are part of the pet ownership experience, but the fact that they gave us a sickly dog that had to be returned within the week (crying kids, etc.).  The vet bills started immediately after receiving the animal.  This was not for shots or normal care.  All due to the sickly nature of the animal that was sick from day one.  Puppy mill?  I don't think so as they seem like very nice people, but who knows.  Then to say you will be reimbursed and then not be reimbursed is flat out wrong.  If they said in the beginning that they would not reimburse us for these bills, then that would be that.  Do not say you will reimburse for these expenses and then do not.  Say what you will do then follow through.

I, for one, do not care for dishonorable people, plain and simple.

This may have been a rare experience for these breeders, but buyer beware when it comes to getting a healthy animal right off the bat.

As for being angry, it could not be farther from the truth.  If you notice, my original post was submitted some 5 years ago and I have not given it much thought since then until I received an email regarding your rebuttal.  I feel as consumers we should put others on notice when you have dealt with a dishonorable merchant, regardless of the business that they are in.  I am happy that you had a good experience.  My experience was not.

$240 is NOT a Staggering Vet Bill

AUTHOR: Customer, san diego - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 03, 2012

...and if you can't afford a $240 vet bill, you probably cannot afford a dog, because their care is v e r y expensive. It sure sounds like you were angry that your friend negotiated a better deal than you could. Just sayin'. These are very fine breeders who have made a lot of pet owners happy. I can attest to that.

Havanesebydesign.com staggering vet bills not reimbursed Internet

AUTHOR: Corey - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 02, 2012

You obviously did not read my complaint:

They committed to reimbursing me in excess of $200 for vet bills for a sickly dog, then did not.

They stated they do not negotiate pricing on any of their dogs, then discounted one to my neighbor.

I don't know how it is where you come from, but if someone says they will do something, they do it and if they say they never do something, then they don't.

Have the Best Dog Ever from HBD!

AUTHOR: Customer, san diego - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 02, 2012

We found this company to be super-responsive and professional, and they went completely out of their way to make sure I had my puppy for a special occasion, driving to the airport at 5AM to deliver my pup to my so,n who had flown out to pick him up. HavanesebyDesign has provided unparalleled, inexpressible joy to our family with the cutest puppy, and now, adult dog ever. We contacted HavanesebyDesign because we saw one of their puppies in Vegas, and the owner told us all of his neighbors now own dogs by the same breeder because his dog is so loved... HBD doesn't owe anyone a discount-- what is that guy complaining about??? I would pay double for this pup! :)
