HireRight, also known as DAC, to the holders of commercial driver licenses should be made to be held accountable for false, inaccurate, misleading and human error reporting when it comes to a CDL holder's DAC report.

Because of a single negative entry on my report which could be taken in more than one way, I lost a new job prospect when they were just about to hire me.  I never would have known about this if the recruiter who was about to hire me did not tell me about this entry on my DAC report.  It made me wonder afterwards if there were other companies who never bothered to contact me whatsoever because of this, as  I have always been and still am very much employable being able to pick which company I want to go work for.

I went online to find their website so I could see how to get this negative entry removed.  I also called their customer service number and was greeted by a not too friendly voice.  At least I was given better instructions on what to do as they don't really tell you the whole process on the web site, but the woman was very short with me and seemed to get ruder with the more questions I asked.

She made out like I was "guilty as charged" and had better things to do with her time than to talk to me.  Even in a court of law a person is innocent until proven guilty.  Anyways I first had to request a copy of my DAC report which takes up to 15 days to receive.  Then you have to dispute whatever you want changed and the company you are disputing it with has 30 days to answer.  Fortunately in my case the negative entry was removed, but only after a process of almost 2 months, so how many more companies out there would not have wanted to hire me during that time I have to wonder!?!

Basically it is no less than LIBEL when a company like HireRight provides these false or inaccurate reports to prospective employers causing the person to not get hired.  In other words, if there were hard feelings between you and your former employer, he can say anything he wants against you, but it is your responsibility to get the matter straightened out while in the mean time you are losing how many prospective employment opportunities.

I firmly believe and truly hope that someday a class action lawsuit will be brought against HireRight for their unfair and libelous practices.  I know there are no doubt thousands of drivers out there who are having a hard time finding employment because of HireRight's misleading or false DAC services and most likely thousands more who don't even have a clue that there is something negative on their report whether it is legitimate or not.
