I went to the House of Brides in Aurora on March 25th with 4 out of my 6 bridesmaids.   I picked out my wedding dress and the girls picked out their bridesmaid dresses.  We were ALL measured and ordered our dresses.  I was told that it takes about 4 months to come in.  I called on July 14, July 16 and July 24 to inquire about the status of our dresses and had to leave messages.  I finally got a call back on July 24th and was told that my dresses would be in the last week of August.  My wedding is September 7th.  Eileen, the manager, was incredibly rude to me on the phone and said that there was nothing that could be done.  I was quite discussed with House of Brides that I picked up my wedding dress that following weekend without trying it on.  Instead I took my dress to Brookdale Tailoring.  The owner, Hanna, informed me that she gets many clients coming from House of Brides.  I about cried when I tried my dress on.  The chest was made for someone with a EEE and because of that the straps were hanging off of my shoulders and I couldn't get it zipped past the middle of my back because the dress wouldn't sit right.  She said it was "just awful" how it was made.  I had to have a corsette put in, the top of my dress which is covered in beads and rinestones, had to have removed, resized, and put back on.  The cost of this is $564.00.  My dress was $760.

Now on to the bridesmaid dresses.  I had asked Eileen when she finally called me back when the order was placed and she said March 25th.  In her response to my complaint with the BBB, she stated that they waited until all the bridesmaids came in and the last one came in on April 22nd and that's when the order was placed.  I found this amusing since I told them that one bridesmaid was going to go to Schaumburg and the other bridesmaid was out of town.  I specifically told them to place the order that day.  She went on to say in her response to BBB that it takes 16 to 24 weeks for orders to come in.  However, my out of town bridesmaid had to back out two months ago and I found someone else to stand in.  I had her go to Wolsfelt's Victorian Bridal in Aurora, and do you know that she got her bridesmaid dress before the ones from House of Brides came in?  Funny.  My future sister-in-law went in to pick up her dress, tried it on, and it was WAY too big.  When she originally was sized they told her she needed a 12.  Both her and her mother objected because she's never worn a size 12.  She's normally a 6.  However, they were told that the dresses run "small".  I picked up my daughter's dress last weekend and the top of the dress comes down to the end of her bra!  When she was measured they told me she needed a size 4.  I questioned that since she normally wears a size 2 in juniors (she's a whole 85 lbs soaking wet!!!!).  Funny thing is is that I was told the same thing "the dresses run small".  So believing in this rip off store, I ordered it.  I took her dress to Brookdale Tailoring and it's going to cost $189 for alterations because the straps, the chest, the waist and the length all need to be altered.  When my sister was measured, they told her she needed a size 18 which cost $220.  When she picked up her dress, you guessed it, it's TOO BIG.  Oh but she had to pay the extra money - just to get it altered and pay more money?  Now the bridesmaid who bought her dress from Wolsfelt's, she only needs a hem.  Now why is that?

I'm convinced that the House of Brides pads their measuring charts so that ALL dresses have to be altered and they make MORE money.  I think they are pathetic and I will continue to tell my story until they either change their policies regarding the sizing, have some integrity, OR CLOSE DOWN!  After reading some of the comments on here, maybe a class action lawsuit should be considered.
