All I needed was an eye exam to get a pair of glasses.

The ophthalmologist (M.D. for eyes) I had been going to for the past five years was now "out of network", so I decided to try Houston Eye Associates.

Although I had an appointment, I waited in the "POD" waiting room at Houston Eye Associates for almost an hour before I was called in to have my eyes examined.  The eye exam itself took about 30 minutes.  After it concluded, I was led to another waiting area where I sat with some other patients for another 40 minutes or so.  Fiinally, Dr. Harris saw me -- for what seemed like all of three minutes -- to check my eyes for glaucoma.

The website of Houston Eye Associates (see the pre-registration forms) indicates that if you pay at the time of service, you will be charged $54 instead of $98 for the refraction, so I opted to pay before I left.  Despite doing so, Houston Eye Associates still billed my insurance -- $98 for the refraction service PLUS $235 for the eye doctor, for a whopping total of $333!  For an eye exam.  To get glasses.  After my sitting there for almost three hours.

To put that into perspective, the ophthalmologist I used to go to charged $89 for *everything*, and included all the same stuff as was done for me at Houston Eye Associates, but in less than an hour, plus it was the eye doctor himself that did the eye testing, not someone else, like at Houston Eye Associates.

So, that's my experience with Dr. Lindsey Harris at Houston Eye Associates.  Double billed!  Obscenely priced!  And a ridiculously long wait!  What a rip-off!

I have worn  glasses and contacts for a little over twenty years I have experienced the horrible service and lack of knowledge at other companies when I lived in another city. HEA have some of the best doctors in the WORLD. You are paying for quality services. The Eye doctors do the testing at HEA, at least they have everytime when i went as well as everone else that i know that goes there. I understand that it is frusterating to have to wait, but when was the last time people didn't wait half a day at an eye glass place that has them out in less than an hour? If you were double billed then it was an error, if you have proof then they would fix it i am sure. Next time go to a place that charges you cheap for eye exam with free frames and half off of lenses. But you get what you pay for and if you think HEA stunk you should take a look around. you are the only one that has complained. go read the nightmares on eyemasters.
