HSBC Card Services - Furniture Row Outlet 6 Months Same As Cash. Yeah Right Portage Michigan

In early September, my fiance and I went to Furniture Row Outlet because we needed a living room set for our new apartment. The salespeople were very nice and helpful and we got a good deal on a sofa, a loveseat and an armchair.

At the time, the promotional deal was "six months same as cash", and I work at a bank so I clearly have some idea what this means. Since our furniture set was less than 1000.00, we decided we could obviously get this purchase paid off by then without any problem, and without interest applied. I am very responsible with my credit dealings, and my checking account, and even set up a small savings account so I could pay off the entire balance by the time it was due.

In late September, just to be SURE I had read the fine print correctly, which I had, I called HSBC Card Services with my account number to confirm the deal. (HSBC is the bank in which the loan/credit card was financed under.)

I asked the customer service rep when the payment was due. She told me not to worry, I had no payments until early March, just like the Furniture Row salesperson had disclosed to me. I was glad everything was straightened out and set up my savings account so I could pay off my balance.

Well, to make the story short and simple, it is December 30th, and I received a "LATE PAYMENT NOTICE" in my email, only THREE AND A HALF MONTHS after we bought this furniture. I was charged a 30.00 late fee for being "delinquent" and I haven't checked yet, but I am certain this will bring this interest rate on my OTHER credit card MUCH higher. (I know how this works.) This will also ruin my credit.

I called HSBC and the girl could barely speak English. She also failed to find my information after ten minutes of searching.

This is disgusting and unfair business practice. What a bunch of despicable liars. I'm only glad that we didn't purchase more from them.
