In march of 06 I bought a laptop from compusa. i had opened a line of store credit in order to purchase the computer.
I was told it would be 36 mos payment and finances deferred. Come April I receive a statement with an 11.00 minimum pymt due. i honestly thought it was optional because i was under the impression of the formentioned. I paid the minimum because i had intended to make payments monthly anyway in order to pay off the computer before the 36 mos.
Then comes May and no statement, i allow weeks and weeks to pass beacause once again i don't believe ive got to make pymts for 3 years. well at the end of may i call and ask about the statement. first i can't understand the csr due to their lack of english. i inquire if i could pay online and was told no but i could pay over the phone for a fee. so the csr tells me the statement had been sent back and they would resend another.
Eventually I received a statement but not for May but June, I then mail out the 11.00 payment and all seems well.
It's now July and no statement, I don't care too much because once again i believe i'm not supposed to make payments for 36 mos.
So, the last week of July I began receiving phone calls from HSBC trying to collect a debt.
I call the compusa/hsbc credit card to get an explanation.
The csr informs me i had recieved a 35.00 late fee for July.
I then explained how i was under the impression about the no payment/finances and how i had only received 2 statements since purchasing the laptop.
He said there was nothing he "could" do because i am obligated to make payments statement or no statement and that I should have made the payment via internet. Oh, my god. So, I ask to speak to a supervisor and she says the exact same thing. I ask her if it's noted on the account that I had called and requested a statement and that I had obviously been having problems with receiving statements and she says yes but there is nothing she "can" =would do.
This company is absolutely horrible and I have done a little research and found hundreds of complaints about HSBC ,
I wish I had done the research before opening a line of credit with these insensative morons.

It likely says 0 percent interest for 36 months.
If you pay the thing off in 36 months, you'll pay no interest, but you have to make the min. monthly payment every month. If you miss 2 payments, I think, the deal is off, and you'll end up paying the interest.
Because you didn't read or understand your contract doesn't mean HSBC is ripping you off...and no, I don't work for them.
I have an account with them. Mine is 12 months zero interest, but I have to pay the min every month...it DOES NOT mean 12 months deferred payments. Big difference.
