 I bought a 2004 Volvo XC90 for my family. I wanted a nice, safe car for them. I test drove the car, decided it was a steal like the employees convinced me. I got the extended warranty as suggested. Do The suv was in decent condition as far as the body and interior. It had 115,000 miles on it. It didn't last more than 6 months and 7,000 miles before the head gasket went. No one who would consider working on the car would touch the warranty. It would have cost $3000 to get the car fixed out of pocket, half of the value of the car. I know now that I should have done more to see that the car was in good shape before committing to a loan.

My wife didn't put a lot of miles on it, we kept up on the routine maintenance, oil change, fluid levels, etc. when the head gasket went it was totally out of the blue. There was definitely a problem with the car when it was sold to me. That's not to say that all the cars are junk, or that they even scammed me, but it is very important to request the dealers show you the car history, and you should take it to your own mechanic before purchasing the vehicle. This dealership was shady with their practices I do believe, but in the end it is a case of, "buyer beware!" Do yourself a favor and make sure there are no red flags, because a salesman only gets commission when a sale is made, and a lot of them will tell you what you need to hear to get that money!
