On February 17, 2016, my computer was taken captive by Isolution Repair.  The message that my computer had been infected with a Zeus virus and should not be turned off was accompanied by an audio message which repeated continually.  When I called the telephone number indicated on the message, my call was answered by Sean William.* It seems my McAfee protection did not protect me from this invasion.

Sean informed me that I needed to have a firewall installed and he would also extend my McAfee subscription for an additional two years.  I would be required to pay $299.99 for this service.  Since I was unable to access anything on my computer, I went ahead with the purchase.  I attempted to use my Wells Fargo Visa account but payment was denied.  I then used my CITI-Sears Mastercard which was approved.

That evening I received a call from Wells Fargo informing me that this transaction was a scam.  The Wells Fargo representative suggested that I take my computer in to be checked and also closed out my Visa card.  I then contacted my Mastercard issuer and had that account closed as well.  There had been an additional unauthorized charge on that account in the interim.  The following morning I took my computer to Office Max to be checked.  The technician found a virus – so much for the firewall and new protection!  Repairing this, of course, entailed an additional charge.

For the above reasons, I demand that my funds be returned.  You should be ashamed of yourselves targeting senior citizens who are on fixed incomes.  It is unconscionable that instead of directing your energies to the betterment of society you use you skills to bring harm.

*Sean Michael was the name the representative used on the telephone.  However, when I received an email the address provided was “SIMAPREET [email protected] // .
