I initially took my 1991 Chevrolet Suburban to the Jim Browne Chevrolet dealership in Tampa Florida on 03/09/2015 to get an estimate on getting my A/C repaired. They told me that it would cost 58.00 dollars for a diagnostic test. After the test the said I needed a replacement of the A/C system and it would cost 1200.00 dollars with tax. I saved up the money and took my truck to there shop to get the repairs done on 08/17/2015. They told me the job would take a day to complete. I also paid them when I dropped the truck. I wanted to make sure my the card went through for the payment. So they ended up charging me 1300.00 dollars. On 08/18/2015 I called to see if they were done fixing the truck and they told me that they had to order parts for the truck. I called them back on 8/20/2015 to check the progress and they informed me that the parts they had been waiting on was discontinued but they was gonna see if they could get the hoses made. On 8/21/2015 they called us and said that it would be an additional 400.00 dollars to get the job done. We stated that we didn't have an extra 400.00 dollars to get the hoses made and that those cost wasn't in our original estimate. Also we went to the dealership that day and the mechanic said that he remembered when we bought the truck in for the original estimate and that he had a 1986 k-5 Blazer and the A/C never got cold and maybe we should think about getting an aftermarket A/C to put in my suburban. The service guy (Mike Ward) introduced us to the service manager (Bob Apel) and said that he would make sure the job got done properly. We mentioned to Bob that the mechanic told us no matter what we get done to the A /C that it would never get cold because his 1986 k-5 Blazer's A/C never got cold. Bob said that the job would be done but he needed a week to re- check the A/C and see what was really needed so he could keep the cost close to the 1300.00 dollars that was quoted in the original estimate and that was already paid. Bob Apel said that they checked and the hoses were brand new in the back part of the truck and they didn't need to get the hoses made now. It was a switch that was needed. On 08/27/2015 we went to pick up the truck and Mike Ward stated while picking up the receipts and paperwork that the belts squeaking now because we need new belts. So we took the truck home and the A/C never got cold and the squeaking of the belts didn't sound right and now we were smelling a burned rubber smell through the air vents. So we took it back and on 09/02/2015 and explained what was wrong with the truck and it was becoming an inconvenience not having the vehicle. They took the truck back and said they would fix it. I pointed out that one of the battery cables was up under the compressor that they replaced and it was in a bad place and I re- wired it. I questioned why did the mechanic route the wire where my ground cable for my battery could melt. Bob Apel said he would check it out personally. We went up to the dealership on 09/09/2015 to see the progress and Bob Apel said it hadn't been looked at yet and he would offer us a loaner vehicle. While he was getting the loaner vehicle for us we decided to talk to a manager of the dealership Brad. We told him what had been going on he said that his mechanic was out of line by making the statement about one of his cars and either they were gonna fix the truck or give us out money back. After talking to him and he assuring us he would be involved personally to get the job done. We went to pick up the loaner vehicle from Bob Apel and we mentioned to him that we just spoke to Brad and before we could finish saying what happened he said "you went and spoke to Brad about it then you let Brad fix the truck for you" and walked off. We went and talked to Brad and he went and spoke to Bob Apel and Bob came and apologized to us and stated he had a bad day. We gave him the info he asked for to get the loaner and he went and got the vehicle for us. On 09/10/2015 Bob called us and said the problem was fixed. We picked up the truck and had it for a few days and it started cutting off while driving the truck. We took a trip to the grocery store with the kids and it cut off in the middle of traffic. So we took the truck back up there on 09/14/2015 and told them the problem. They said they drove the truck and it didn't cut off on them. Brad told me if I could come up there and duplicate the problem then they would fix it other than that it was nothing else they could do. And I pointed out also that the transmission cooler was loose in the grill of the truck. Somebody has unhooked that and didn't plug it back up. So the truck has been at the dealership since then. We've tried to give them every opportunity to correct there mistakes.

Why Are You Going To A Dealer For This?

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 17, 2015

When you go to a dealer for service you are setting yourself up to be price gouged as well as encountering people who don't care about you and display a great amount of incompetance!

Find a good INDEPENDENT SHOP and form a continual relationship with them.  When I say "independent shop", I mean a non-chain operation being owned and operated by an experience mechanic.  I do NOT mean Walmart, the tire and battery shop or some chain operation.  You will get much better prices, deal with honest people who actually care about you.
