I just wanted to make everyone aware of an awful experience my husband and I had at Jim Potts Motor Group in Woodstock. We took our 2004 195 Bayliner to get a quote to get recarpeted. We needed the entire thing redone. Half of the carpet was already ripped out too. We also had the carpet for them to install. He was so extremely nice and helpful when we initially took it in. He quoted us $300 for the entire boat, which was more than a few other quotes we got but since he was so nice we decided to go with them anyways. He said he would call us the next day once his "carpet guy" actually looked at it to confirm the price.  We thought.. no problem, he's a nice guy.. we'll trust him. He called my husband the next day and told him that the only issue the "carpet guy" had was he was unable to redo the seat boxes. We both talked and figured, thats okay we'll just do them ourselves or just leave it since you can't really see the boxes. While my husband was on the phone with Jim he inquired several times that the entire boat would be carpeted except the seat boxes and that included all of the little nooks and cubby holes. He also inquired for a estimate sheet and Jim ensured everything else on the boat would be carpeted and confirmed the $300 price so there was no need for an estimate sheet. My husband was also going to rebuild our carb, but figured we would give them more business and it would save him time.

They called us a few days later saying our boat carpet was all done (on a Friday) and that we could come pick the boat up to use for the weekend, but to bring it back by Sunday night so they could rebuild the carb the following week. We go to pick up the boat.. and the only thing that is carpeted is the floor. It's also not completely stuck down on the edges and there is carpet glue all over the old carpet. Jim Potts wasn't there and the man who was helping us, said we had to pay the $300 on the invoice (wouldnt let us pay credit) but he was sure Jim would refund us 1/2 the price since they only did half of the job. He also mentioned how crappy of a job it was and he wouldn't be happy either. The following week we called Jim every single day and he never called us back. The receptionist even mentioned to my husband and apologized for only completely half of the carpet job. We really didn't think it was a huge issue (other than being annoyed) considering everyone at the shop kept commenting and acknowledged on how the boat wasn't finished. Jim never called us back, so my husband stopped in after work. When he talked to the receptionist she went and found Jim and he said he couldn't talk to my husband because he was busy. Then he walked out of his office and completely ignored him until my husband could get his attention. He obviously knew my husband was waiting and knew he was wrong and made a mistake, otherwise he would have returned our calls and addressed the issue.  He had NO problems calling us back ASAP when we inquired about getting work done. After discussing the carpet problems Jim admitted it was a mistake and specifically said to my husband..."Oh I thought you were talking about a 'cuddy' cabin". It made absolutely no sense whatsoever because we obviously do not have a cuddy cabin! He also agreed that the "carpet guy" did a crappy job and he would fix it for us. We had to leave our boat there since they did not finish rebuilding the carb yet, so Jim had said to compensate for his mistake he would "work with us" on the next bill for the carb. During this entire conversation my husband could tell he was uncomfortable and he was rushing through the conversation and wasn't helpful like he was when we got a quote. Due to how he was acting my husband and I wrote him an email expressing our concerns with the whole situation and asked him for options as far as how we can now get our boat fully carpeted. In my life I have never received such an unprofessional response from a business owner. He was completely lying and backing out of every single thing he told us. We were utterly shocked reading his email back to us. We could not believe this nice man sent this email. In the email he stated how our carpet cannot be put in boats (WTF? My parents used the exact same carpet in their boat and its awesome). We thought this was ridiculous that he decided to tell us that our carpet cannot be put in boats AFTER the fact. Why didn't he tell us this when we were in his office getting the quote? He saw the carpet. OR after he spoke with his "carpet guy" and he saw the carpet. I decided to be the bigger person and not write back because he still had our boat in his possession and we couldn't trust him with it. I don't know how this man sleeps at night after scamming people like this. I am also furious that they told us we could only pay with a check for the carpet.. which we did to get our boat back for the weekend. Yet, they were more than fine with us paying with a credit card last night for the carb. Jim's way of "working with us" was knocking off $15 dollars. That's it!!! Now, we have a boat with two completely different colored carpet (brown and grey). It looks unbelievably horrible. One of his reponses was "Well you shouldn't have brought me a different color carpet, then you would have the same color". We would have NEVER agreed to them replacing only half of our carpet for the full price they quoted. It just doesn't make sense. We had other places we could have taken our boat. Hell my husband could have done it himself.

My husband and I are very reasonable and responsible people. Both of our families own small businesses and I work for a small business. We completely understand how they work and were willing to work with Jim to get our boat how it should be, without either parties being screwed over. We were even willing to pay more than the $300 to get the FULL boat carpeted to help remedy his mistake. His response to that was "the price is the price".. which obviously didn't address our concern. This man is incredible and I dont know how his business is still standing. It's so unfortunate because his shop is 2 miles from our house and we were so excited to have a close, reliable place we could trust with our boat. I know that they refused a credit card for the carpet job because they knew they messed up and if we disputed the charge on a credit card we would have won. We didnt immediately try to put a stop on the check, because his employees made it so clear to me that they made a mistake and Jim would get it fixed. Once we realized Jim was avoiding us the check was already cashed and couldn't be stopped. Once we picked up our boat for good they still did not fix the glue from the new carpet on the old carpet nor did they fix the carpet that wasn't completely glued down.
