This account begins like many other complaints I now know of, unfortunately, I gained this knowledge too late. My husband took our '97 Grand Am in to Just Brakes because of squeaky breaks, he figured he would be safe bringing it in to "break specialists". (I drove the car two days before he took it in, and the breaks did not squeak once)

The initial driveway service Authorization was $99.88(before they even inspected the breaks)- Then they proceeded to inspect the breaks, finding that the disk pads were supposedly crystalized, the break shoes needed to be relined, both rotors needed to be replaced, the drum was on its last cut, so it also needed to be replaced, the wheel cylinders needed to be replaced because they were supposedly sludged, the calipers were binding and they also needed replacing, the disk hardware was sticking-replaced, the shim kit was missing, so we needed one of those, the return springs were weak-needed new ones-the brake system was dirty and needed flushing, and the bearing pack was not servicable, so these squeky breaks needed 11 new parts, and cost us over $700.00 when everything was said and done.

The problem was that they made it seem like the car was really unsafe, and it needed this work done immediately, and the breaks were already apart by this time, so either you agree to pay and be safe, or your breaks go out on the way home. I know that the car probably only needed new pads. These do not cost $700.00 Somebody needs to do something and get their money back from this awful consumer fraud!

Ripoff at any Just Brakes

AUTHOR: Withheld - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 05, 2003

I think all Just Brakes are crooks. I once took my Wifes car to them on LBJ Freeway ant Preston in Dallas. I was the only customer there that
cold January morning.

My Wife was complaining about the front brakes squeeking. I had replaced the pads previously myself. I said what the heck I'll get them to look at the brakes.

They took the car in and tore everything apart and then said I needed new pad on the front and shoes on the back. Then they came in and said I needed new wheel cylinders on the back. I told them NO. They finished and I paid them.

I got into the car and brake peddle went to the floor. I went back in and told them I didn't have any brakes. They put the car back on the lift and tore the back brakes apart again.
He then poked a screwdriver into the wheel cylinder boot and showed me that it was leaking fluid. He caused it to leek.

I finally realized that I would not get out without buying new wheel cylinders for the back wheels. I paid for them and left. A little squeel cost me $400+ that day.
I didn't call their office, I just don't use them anymore ever.

THE BEST WAY TO FIX THESE CROOKS IS TO TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. AND I THOUGHT THEY ONLY RIPPED OFF FEMALES. WAS I WRONG.
