My wife and I hired Keller Moving and Storage Company to move us from a 900 square foot apartment in Hatfield, Pa to a 2700 square foot home in Harleysville, Pa, which is 10 minutes apart from one another.  Keller Moving Company stated to us that they wrap all furniture completely, take apart furniture and reassemble it, use floor coverings, and that our belongings would not be damaged.  Our move was scheduled for August 30, 2010.

At approximately 9.00a.m. on that day, a company arrived to my apartment stating that they were from Jensen Moving company, I replied we hired Keller Moving company, and the gentlemen stated we are part of Keller Moving, which just didnt make me comfortable since Keller Moving was recommended to me and not Jensen.  Upon the initial signing of the contract we did not purchase additional insurance and were told we have the option of purchasing it up to the day of the move.  I wanted to purchase the insurance but on the day of the move the foreman acted like I couldnt and looked puzzled.

So, with all the commotion going on I took the trust of the company to handle my belongings with care.  The movers came unprepared and did not have any tools (a power drill) to take apart furniture.  I had to use a hand tool to disassemble my furniture which we paid the moving company to do.  The movers did not fully wrap our furniture like they stated they would in their contract, and they were extremely rough and careless with transporting our furniture to the moving truck.  We paid for our large mirrors and expensive pictures to be wrapped in a box which they also did not do.  As the movers were wrapping furniture, one individual was sweating really bad onto our newer sofa.

I explained to the movers that our very large Armor had to be disassembled and moved a certain way to get it down the stairs without damage, they neglected to take my advice and attempted their way and totally destroyed our Armor by breaking the louver doors, cracking the leg into the frame, and denting and deep scratched to it.  The movers took 7 hours to just move us out of our small apartment and took about 15 smoke breaks at about 10 minutes a peace.  I did not hire them to smoke and be careless with our belongings and stretch out the time so they can make more money.

They finally arrived at our new home which was only a 10 minute ride to Harleysville.  As they opened up one of the trucks, I noticed all our boxes and furniture was shifted in a manor that everything fell on top of one another and the truck looked like they just threw everything in it.  As they were moving our belongings into our new home, we noticed that every piece of furniture was dented and chunks of wood was missing.  I then noticed when they brought in our 32 Flat Screen Tv, which was not wrapped, it was completely shattered.

At this point my wife called the moving company to speak to a supervisor, and only was able to speak to the dispatcher which who we put in our complaint to.  He stated there was nothing he could do and that we have to call the office in the morning.  As my wife was talking to the dispatcher the one mover tried moving our chase sofa lounge off the truck with a lit cigarette in his mouth and dropped it off the truck causing damage to it.  At this point my wife and I were mortified.  We continued to notice dents and scratches on all our furniture and we just wanted them to leave our residence.

The contract stated they would reassemble all our furniture at the new house.  They just threw all our furniture in the rooms unassembled and left.  I had to put together a canopy bed, another full size bed and office furniture, which we paid the moving company to do.  The scratched our walls in the stairwell severely and did not use any floor coverings in the new home.  The whole move was finally over after 12 hours.  The estimate stated it would only take 8-9hours based on our belongings.  The following  morning we spoke to a very nasty woman named Megan who was the manager and they did send someone out to inspect the damage.

Moving forward, they said we had to submit a claim and that they would take care of it.  Later that night, my wife noticed a box of vases all broken and I immediately called and left a message with the moving company saying we are mortified and we keep finding broken items.  I also said I would consult an attorney if not resolved.  The following morning I noticed that the moving company charged us an extra $758.00.  The estimate stated it would cost $1182.00 and the final price came to $1758.00 way over their estimate.

I immediately called the company and spoke to Megan who became very nasty and said we authorized any additional expenses and she actually hung the phone up.  I called back from a different number and she began screaming at me saying call your attorney and hung up again.  I attempted to call her back several more time and she did not answer.  I called again and blocked my number and she then answered the phone and I had to basically kiss up to her so she would not hang up, and basically she said our stuff would be taken care of and to fill out the claim form.  We filed the claim form which totaled to $7800.00 worth of damage.

Their insurance company related to us that since we did not purchase additional insurance they will only pay .60cents per lb. of the items.  Their offer came in to us at $1062.00 which does not even cover the Armor they destroyed.  We are currently in the process with an Attorney to take them to court.  This company was very unprofessional, negligent, and not competent at all.  We paid for a service which they basically did not fully comply by.

The company did not even offer us a partial refund for the neglegence and unpreparedness of their employees.  I had to do half their work by disassembling and reassembling all my furniture.  I would like my story to be heard so there will not be a next victim with this company.
