Discount Pool Warehouse, sold me a pool in what I thought was good faith to see to it that we were satisfied. We paid cash for this pool for our two grandchildren that recently lost their mother (ages 7 & 11). We never thougth we were in for a nightmare. The pool warehouse recommended a Mr. kenneth Phillips to install our pool, and since we knew no one else and trusted both businesses to be honest. We went with Mr. Phillips for said installation of our pool. We prepared our site for the pool to the best of our ability and knowledge, having signed an agreement with the pool warehouse that we do this.

Unknown to us, three(3) weeks after our pool was installed, and we were swimming in it, we saw the grass growing in the bottom of our liner. we notified the pool warehouse, and Mr. Phillips, both who met us with no admittance of guilt. Actually, the people at the pool warehouse were down right rude! And Mr. Phillips simply played dumb. He had no comment on the fact that he told us that the only kind of grass you could not kill was "nut grass", and that we of course did not have this kind of grass. He was wrong because some kind of grass was growing in the pool! And according to the Clemson University farm extension service you can kill all grasses with the proper kind of chemical. According to the agent at Clemson, a chemical called "Image" would kill this type of grass, and that it could be purchased at Home Depot, or Lowes. And that only one application would be necessary.

Our complaint with both of these companies is that it is their duty and obligation, to properly educate a consumer of the different kinds of grasses and the proper kind of killing solution. If a person installs pools for a living I'm sure he has encountered this problem before. As a matter of fact Mr. Phillips told us that he had one lady in particular that had to replace 3 liners due to this "nut" grass growing through her liner. But he apparently never tried to get her the proper chemical to kill such grass. Upon telling us this, we then asked Mr. Phillips, "DO WE HAVE THIS TYPE OF GRASS GROWING IN OUR PREPARED LOCATION? He said "NO"!

I reported Mr. Phillips to the State Of South Carolina Department Of Consumer Affairs office, and this was his response to our complaint, "It seem that since both of them have a college education that they could read and understand the form that they signed & sent it with the complaint form. I will take the liner out let them prepare the bottom for grass & install a new liner that they will get. Labor $300.00 because I am no way responsible.

I ask you, is this the right thing for Mr. Phillips to do? Anyone with half a mind would want to prepare their site properly. And according to what we were told we thought we did! A little information about the form we signed, it is very brief and informative at all, and now looking back at it, it reeps of a way to cover themselves liability of blame, and I'm not so sure that the form is actually legal, it looks very unprofessional and suming it up it says, "Customers are responsible for spraying for ants or any kind of grass that could damage pool liner. It does not go into any informative information of what kind of grasses, or how or what will kill them.

Also, the pool warehouse said verbally that a one time application of grass killer would take care of it. That when the pool is put in the grass could not grow. This too was a lie! But we believed them, because why should we doubt their knowledge of their business.

In closing, I'd like to say that this battle is not over, far from it!

Thank you for allowing me to vent.

Not Discount Pool Warehouse.com

discountpoolwaehouse.com does not sell about ground pools.  This consumers complaint has nothing to do with our on line company.
