Kinetico, a water softener (distributed through Maricopa Water Processing Systems 602-497-0488) charged us $750.00 to replace a tank that burst on a system we purchased about 5 years ago. They refuse to honor their 10 year warranty.

They claim our residential water pressure exceeded 125 psi. The City of Phoenix has documentation proving the water pressure in the area never comes close to 125 psi.

This system was installed by Kinetico/Maricopa Water Processing staff and regularly maintained by them, per warranty instructions.

Maricopa Water Processing Systems refuses to honor the warranty because the equipment manufacturer assumes the water pressure caused the problem although the City of Phoenix can prove otherwise.

Obviously, the warranty is a useless document.

Dear Consumer,

Why did you not contact our company directly? Why did this site never mention and / or contact us to respond? Are we supposed to be telepathic and just know someone has a challenge? This was submitted on 5/13/01 yet we discovered this from a competitor using this to disparage our firm. It causes one to wonder if it were not a plant by a competing business. Does this site make any attempt to verify any of the alleged claims? How can it

ensure that a competing company wouldn't stoop to such unethical measures?

If this is a genuine complaint, then why doesn't the person merely contact the firm? Our firm is very clear about warranty issues...they are all written and every real customer has a registered copy. As for honoring the warranty...we always abide by this written warranty.

On water pressure we recommend that everyone have a pressure regulator installed. We have each customer provide a signature to decline the installation of a pressure regulator. The Uniform Plumbing Code has a maximum water pressure of 80 PSI (pounds per square inch). In the past few years due to the growth of the metro area the water pressure has been found to be in excess of 125 PSI fairly frequently.

ew home builders incorporate pressure regulators into the construction of nearly every new home built. Good "Home inspectors" regularly check water pressure during the home inspection of new and resale homes. Most appliance manufacturers

(dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, hot water heaters,

disposals, etc.) have recommended PSI limits from 60 to 80 PSI max. In fact most home owners insurance policies limit flood / leak insurance coverage in cases where the water pressure exceeds 80 PSI. They simply have a water damage specialist place a pressure regulator on the incoming water mainline and record the highest water PSI; if it exceeds 80 PSI they generally don't pay the claim. The municipal water providers have the mission of sending the water to the newly annexed farthest fringes of their city limits. Many times that means moving the water over a

considerable distance as well as planning for future growth ...more houses = more people = more water.

Initially the water pressure may be extremely high until the fringe areas "buildout" Also water pressure varies greatly

from the time of day to the area / distance from the treatment plant. In many parts of the valley of the sun; in a single 24 hour period it is possible to experience wide fluctuations in water pressure from 30 PSI to over 100 PSI a very abnormal swing compared with other area's of the US. Contrast that with more mature cities that provide consistent 40-45 PSI.

The cities take zero responsibility for water pressure in the home. They merely ensure that it gets to the home. They say it's ones personal responsibility to ensure that a pressure regulator be installed if you are concerned. Most plumbing companies install pressure regulators for $350-$600 per home. We install PSI regulators for only the materials cost; usually around $54.

The city cannot document the water pressure in a given home at a given time after the fact...unless they are telepathic as well. Many things within a home can cause dramatic changes to pressure...changes in original piping after construction, pipe size changes, ambient and water temperature, fixture count (# of faucets, commodes, showers, etc.), installation / operation of a swimming pool etc. One can record the maximum water pressure at a home in a 24 hour period to gain insight into "probable" water pressure...a good clue is if during daylight hours you get to or exceed 70 PSI very likely the water pressure could be as much as

50% more at the highest pressure recorded. If it exceeds 80 PSI it violates the Uniform Plumbing Code. At our factory we pressure test to establish burst pressure...that happens from 500-600 PSI.

If this is response to a real customer...I would encourage you to contact our firm ASAP. We will work to help you resolve any issues that may concern you. We always follow up with real customers.

Thank You
