I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with L.A. Weight Loss. I joined the program on June 22, 2004 with the hopes of losing about 15-20 lbs. When I came in for my initial appointment, I was greeted by a weight loss professional. I have since realized that the people working in these centers are not professionals at all, and these L.A. Weight Loss jobs are actually posted all over the internet and require absolutely no medical background.

Having a woman in a white coat walk around the center is very clever and certainly makes customers think that these people are specialists, however, they clearly are not. This became apparent to me after meeting with these people who were extremely unprofessional as well as manipulative.

At my second visit, I was told that in order to guarantee weight loss, I had to buy supplements. I did. However, it was not explained to me that these supplements could be harmful if the person consuming them is exposed to tanning lights, sunlight or UV sources! This is clearly information which should be mentioned right away, especially in the summer months when people are exposed to such things! This seems like common sense to me. I am extremely unhappy that I purchased these supplements without warning. I am including my receipt and I am formally requesting a refund. My credit card number should be in your records, if not, please contact me at once.

When I joined the program, I was told that I would not have to spend any more money, and that the L.A. Lites were being provided to me and I was handed a box of them. I was led to believe that I would be given a box every week, and after paying $484.20 to join, plus the cost of the supplements, I certainly believed that I was entitled to this.

It was at the next visit that I was told I needed to purchase the L.A. Lights. When I objected, the person was very pushy and told me that I needed to buy them in order to lose weight. When I refused again, she actually left the room and came back in with another woman to convince me that I needed to buy the product and that if I really want to lose weight, I would buy them. I now had two women harassing me for more money. This is when I realized that while the literature says the L.A.Lites are not mandatory, the people working at the center must be working on commission and are told to sell! sell! sell! I was incredibly angry when I left the center.

I feel that I was duped into signing this contract and flat out lied to. I feel that much of the information provided to me could be considered false advertising. For example, in the Weight Loss SUCCESS Kit which I received after signing the contract, (at my second visit), it states Be Sure To. Enjoy two L.A. Lights every day and Include your supplements in your daily routine. Again, this information was NOT given to me during my initial consultation! This is truly an attempt to scam a client (who has already paid $484.20) into spending more money.

This LA Weight Loss person actually wanted to charge me $748.00 for crappy chocolate bars!!!!
I hope this points out the un-professionalism and utter lack of ethics and morals that were displayed at L.A. Weight Loss.

Never again will I join a program in which the staff has not even lost weight on the program themselves! It is truly a disgrace.

Been There, Done That, Have the T-Shirt

AUTHOR: Alysia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 13, 2004

I joined LA WeightLoss back in 2001. The staff did seem very friendly though, but the problem I had was the cost. I dont' remember how much the program itself cost me which I paid up front, but I do know that it was a couple hundred. I do remember the 3 or 4 different types of pills all to be taken in a special way at special times (big pain in the *ss}. And I definitely cant ever forget the boxes of LA Lite Bars at a cost of $6.00 a box. There are 6 bars in a box, and they allow you 2 boxes at a time, yet they expect you to pay for many boxes at one shot.(my point: why pay for something you cant have possesion of?). They have a "The more you buy right now, the more you save" kind of deal. Is it really a deal? who knows. I hardly think 6 bucks for 6 bars is a deal and personally I think these bars are equivelent to the slim fast bars which you can buy at Wal-Mart for 3 bucks cheaper. bars might be smaller, but no biggie. You wanna lose weight anyway right? OK, so I spent 2 months on the program and was lucky to lose 5 pounds. I totally starved with the food plan they have. So after giving up that program because I have a family to feed too, and more important bills to pay, I gained my weight back ++++++. This past June I decided that I can't keep going on like that, so I called a doctor referral service and told them I was looking for a doctor that specializes in weight loss, and she found one. I have NEVER been happier. this woman is a blessing. when I went to see her the first time, she ordered blood tests. She said she does that to be sure the program is right for that person. I found out that I have an underactive thyroid, a fatty liver, and higher than normal cholesterol. Does LA Weightloss do that in order find out the CAUSE of your weight gain? NOPE. Do they give you the correct medication to fit your medical needs? NOPE. The only way people lose weight from LA Weightloss is through starvation. And another thing, I get weighed every 2 weeks, see my doctor every 4 weeks (unlike the gas wasting 3 day a week thing at L.A.W.L). And with my health insurance, my meds cost me 32.00 a month and my doc visits cost me a 20.00 co pay once a month.Thats 52.00 a month compared to thousands in 1 year. I can proudly say since June, 2004 I went from a size 20 jeans down to a 12. And I still ain't finished. I have my days where I crave chocolate and IceCream (alot of days) and I find that if I don't deny myself, the less likely I am to over indulge. Although I had a eating plan set for me by my doctor, I stuck to it for about 1 month but couldnt handle not having the food I really wanted, but I was totally honest with my doc, and she was ok with it because she was seeing results anyway. So Kate if you lived around my area, I would definitely recommend her. She is great. And a licensed DOCTOR. Sorry this is so long.
