This company was my income tax preparer. The IRS audited a particular year which they did my taxes. When I told my preparer he said he would fix the problem. (This was expected considering any 'tax professional' should be able to back up their work). After months passed without hearing from him, I scheduled an appointment with him (it was the only way to get my information across since he was never available over the phone). At the meeting he told me if the information he gave to the IRS wasn't satisfying to them, he would put $1,000 toward my bill. This comment was very unnerving. I presented him with all the documents he deemed necessary to proceed with the audit and he told me the matter would be handled before the year ended. One of the documents which he told me I needed costs $60 to obtain and at the meeting he told me I didn't need it after all.

A month passed since that meeting and I heard nothing from him. I received another letter from the IRS threatening to levy any wages if I didn't pay the amount they were auditing me for or contact them within ten days. I called Land & Company that Monday so I could speak with my preparer and find out what progress had he made with my case. After being on hold, he finally answered the phone and told me he was on his way out to a meeting and if I could call him at 12:30 that afternoon. I told him it would be better for him to contact me in case his meeting ran late. He then told me I should call him because he might forget to call me. I called his office at 12:35 and his secretary said he had just left the office and would probably return later that afternoon.

I was very upset because he told me to call him at that time and I had to settle this matter quickly with the IRS. I left a message and it was never returned that day. I called the next morning and left a message with his secretary again. Later that afternoon when I had still not heard from him, I called again and scheduled an appointment for the following day (Wednesday) since it seemed that would be the only way I would be able to find out what was going on.

Wednesday morning his secretary called me to say he had to cancel my appointment because he had to see another client. I was upset but rescheduled for the next day (Thursday). After all this time he still had not contacted me. Thursday morning one hour before my appointment, his secretary calls me and says he needs to cancel my appointment again and that I needed to reschedule. I was furious by this point. It was completely obvious this guy was trying to avoid me. I yelled at his secretary and told her I was coming to the office and getting my documents that I had given him so I can handle this matter myself. She told me she would call him and call me right back. She did and relayed the message from him saying for me not to be upset, that he was with the client from the previous day closing up their situation and that he would call me that afternoon. I agreed, but he never called back. That was a week ago today.

I now have to figure out how I am going to handle this situation on my own without my documents.
