Okay, this guy is about the only security business that has any worth here in Southern Oklahoma, other than Burns (Which seems to be a lot better, you see these guys in Wal-mart's parking lot) and is not worth the money.

First off, he "thinks" he's a police officer. He hangs out with them, does raids with them, etc. I believe this is crap, but hey, to each their own.

Secondly, he offers a fair job to his employees, and it seems so at first. After the training, which is done by Ausley's Security Acedemy (Good place to train), you're automatically hired it seems like. As a matter of fact, Ausley's son offered him as an employer (Lawton Security) and I was hired fairly quickly. When I got on the job, I never got a license (Is this illegal?) and never did for my scope of employment (4 months before I got fed up and quit).

I had to purchase my own equipment, pants, shoes, and whatnot (He gave you one (1) shirt, a badge and a magnetic sign for your car as well as a radio). I had to purchase my mace, night stick, handcuffs, equipment belt, training and etc. Guess what? I was never repaid for any of this. My work pay-rate was 5.75 an hour with gas refunding, I declined it and said I'd pay for gas myself, guess how much he raised my pay too? 6.00 an hour, a whole 25 cents to chunk for gas to do HIS job.

Right, great job. Half of the security officers didn't have equipment when shift changes came and some were disabled, I mean to the point where it looked as if they couldn't even do the job... and these were for the high risk sights.

How was the quality of his guards, you ask? Well, I never met all of them and some did seem "all right" but when 9/11 hit we had to do security for a power plant for fear of terrorist attacks. One fellow I spoke with, who was armed (I was unarmed), stated this to my question. Me: "Hey, you're armed, so does that mean you'll stand down and shoot if a terrorist arrives?

Other Guard: "Hell no, I see a terrorist and I'm going the other way." I never understood why in the hell someone would do this, but hey, there's your quality.

Most of the guards complained, because he paid squat for wages, and many had the same deal as I did for gasoline. I've heard a lot about the way he enforces the security of the community. A woman that worked for him stated to me, "I was working at Taco Bell and a fight broke out, he (The employer/Lawton Security) told me not to do anything.

Well, one guy was lifted over another's head and was thrown to the parking lot, I swore I heard something pop in his back. I maced him and detained him, I was chewed out for it by the employer." Yeah, that's some real security right there, let me tell you.

If you're in southern Oklahoma, stay away from this fellow, he ain't worth it. I can go into other details about this company, but I've probably already given myself away (Hehehe, he knows cops, I've had enough tickets in my life for now). Even a few of my buddies say he's "Money over anything" so what you're buying from him is not worth the paper it's printed on. Oh well, for 'ref his name is Jake Elgersma (I dunno if that's spelled right), he owns Lawton Security (Inc).

Go with Burns Security, at least they seem like they do their job, I know I did when I worked there. It ain't worth it, end story.

Note: If you (The employer) are smart enough to figure out who this is, I'm just reporting my reports of the company and it's MY FREEDOM OF SPEECH to do so. These statements within are credited by my own findings, close friends reports and security officer's reports to me during idle chatter and witnessed personally on some occasions. I am in no way slandering the company ITSELF. Thank you.

Nothing New here...

I read this hoping to find a new way that private contract security companies can rip people off--- especially employees.

You were supposed to have some sort of license to be an armed security offier. in Texas, it is called COMMISSION. The employer usually takes the cost for it out of your check but the company has to pay the State licensing and regulatory agency.
Surely, even Oklahoma has a licensing and regulatory agency in charge of private security and private investigators?

You should have to buy your own gear. Shooting a common pistol makes as much sense to me as brushing my teeth with a common toothbrush! You don't know whether or not it will even fire unless you can take it out on the range and put a few rounds through it. I want my OWN semiautomatic revolver, thank you very much! I don't want some idiot who has not a clue playing with it and maybe messing up the sights, etc.
I also want my OWN gear. It is hell to constantly alter pants to fit all these different officers so hw as in line by letting you buy your own pants. I liked military BDU pants They were practical and cheap and they lasted me a long time.
You NEVER rush in when two adults who are evenly matched or fighting! Then they will probably both turn and beat YOU up. I call the police and get as much info on the combatants as I can --vehicle descriptions, license plate numbers, names if I can get them, clothing descriptions. Just ONE of me and TWO or MORE of them. I ain't taking no lumps for a lousy pittance, subsistence wage, man. No way!
They should have told you that your job is primarily to OBSERVE AND REPORT! I do not engage in gratious head-knocking for that sort of money. If it is a child or a little person or an elderly person whose life is in immediate danger, THEN I will do something. Otherwise, no way. Same thing if the person committing the crime is of a different race or ethnicity or color than you are. You WILL lose your job, at least here in Texas...
Safe thing is to have someone from the predominant ethnic or racial group in the place where you are guarding to be the security guard. that way you can't get sued as readily for discrimination, harrassment, civil rights violations, etc.
This is HOW THINGS WORK IN SECURITY --except that you should have had a commission card or some sort of card from the State of Oklahoma to let them know you were allowed to be a security officer.
You need to call the licensing and regulatory board that handles private security agencies and tell them that this security company owner is NOT licensing his people. If he took the licensing fee out of your check, then he also committed fraud and you can call the IRS and report it to them...
this is standard practice for most of the places where I worked security but I don't know how you all do things in Oklahoma. You call your regulatory agency and find out the rules. they were supposed to have taught you that in the Security training academy, anyway.
