On may 12th 2015 I saw a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house on zillow .com to rent. I sent an email letting whoever was in charge of the home know that I was interested in learning more about the property. On may 14 2015 I got an email response back from the homeowner. He said that he and his wife are missionaries over in Nigeria. He said they would be there for 2-3 years and needed someone to rent their home to and to take care of it. My fiance and I thought it was a good opportunity. We had never not seen a home or apartment before renting but we loved the pictures and we never questioned that the house was not their home or that it was in the hands of a realtor. So of course our application was accepted and he asked for first months rent and the security deposit which was a total of $1300 to be sent by money gram to him over in Nigeria and then he would send us the keys and all the paper we would need to go with the house.

On may 15 2015 we were incredibly stupid and sent the money. On may 16 2015 at 9:30 am I was contacted through another email asking me for another months rent and if I paid it we would get the month of august free. I knew immediately something was up. Since it was Saturday and my fiance was off work we went to check out the home. We seen the realty sign in the front yard of the exact home we were supposedly renting. We called the realty office and they told us that the renting scheme was a scam and that they had contacted the local authorities about it. The sheriff's office said there was nothing they could do until an actual crime was committed.

I called the sheriff's office to report the scam and my story and file was given to a detective. The detective talked to me for 5 minutes told me there was nothing he could do. That this was happening all over the Internet and there is nothing anyone can do because it is happening over seas. And told me to have a good day. the man who is posing as the owner of this home has been emailing and texting non stop since saturday coming up with every story to get me to give him more money. I don't know if that will help u or not. I believe there is something someone can do but no one is trying. Just because it happens over seas does not mean that they get away with it. My fiance and I understand we may not see our money again but we don't want this done to someone else. So if u can help in any way please help us. Thank you.
