After filing a complaint with Better Business Bureau, Consumer Protection Office and Fair Trade Commission, GM finally responded.  It directed me to Grand Prize Cadillac in Nyack, NY (not Martin Cadillac!) to repair my car.

It is still unfortunate that it had to take government agency's involvement for GM/Cadillac to properly service its customer.  To my dismay, Martin Cadillac was not even in the picture in resolution of my service issues.

I have always driven Japanese cars and this was first time purchasing American car somehow believing all the recent events with the Big Three have helped them wake up and get their acts together.  Based on my experience, GM and its dealers, especially Martin Cadillac, still have a long way to go to catch up their foreign competitions.

What I had to endure after giving them $54K business -- lack of professionalism in dealing with clients, unresponsiveness to customer issues/concerns and lack of timeliness in resolving problems -- epitomizes the problems of American Car industry.

As for me, I am going back to Japanese/Korean next time I buy my car.

Does "Made in America" Still Mean Anything for Cars?

Here are some excerpts.

Japan's Nissan occupied its Chicago stage with a bevy of Nissan-branded trucks and SUVs, most of them produced in Nissan's plant in Canton, Mississippi. Obviously, Nissan is far removed corporately and culturally from the domestic Big Three. With the exception of an occasional collaboration (the joint minivan project with Ford, for example), Nissan is most closely linked with global partner Renault. But don't tell anyone in Canton where Nissan builds the Altima, Armada, Quest and Titan

that Nissan's domestic product isn't American. The Mississippi plant puts food in American mouths, and the plant's profits underwrite an increasing amount of Nissan design and engineering in the States.

Meanwhile, we have the omnipotent Toyota producing trucks in both Texas and Indiana, Honda with a vast presence in Ohio and Ontario, Canada and the Koreans opening plants in both Alabama (Hyundai) and Georgia (Kia, in 2009).

For example, Chrysler's retro PT Cruiser

may recall American cars of the prewar era, but it's produced at a Chrysler plant in Toluca, Mexico. And according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), only 35 percent of the PT Cruiser's content is sourced in the U.S. or Canada. The "American" Ford Fusion contains just 30-percent U.S./Canadian content, whereas the competing "Japanese" Honda Accord contains 70 percent, Nissan Altima 65 percent and Toyota Camry 80 percent.

Conversely, the all-new Toyota Tundra

(engineered in the U.S. and produced at Toyota's newest manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas) is as wholly American as any Japanese vehicle has been to date
.

All this aside, I would never buy a Cadillac anyhow. It is over-priced, over-engineered and plagued with problems. Not to mention it is associated with mean old people, gangsters, mobsters and rappers.

I am also curious what this report is about. What happened??..was it just a bad experience with a car dealer as we ALL have been through?..or was the car really a piece of junk? Did they not honor a warranty? Just complaining that a dealership gave lousy customer service does not conclude that GM vehicles are any worse..or better then the other heaps of crap being sold today by any dealership.

You have an convoluted thought process. Why would dumping billons of taxpayer's dollars on an incompetent, bankrupt company improve either the quality of their product or service? With the government owning a sizeable chunk of the company, like that's gonna improve efficiency. What do they call it now? GM equals government motors and if what many are saying happens and the Chinese buy another large chunk of the company, they'll nickname in general moto and you WILL be driving a Japanese/Korean/Chinese vehicle with a GM nameplate.
