McAlisters Funeral Home Funeral vs Cremation Charleston South Carolina

 In 2008, I took my mother to this funeral home to make her pre-need. After all was picked, the amount of $5,400.00 was paid in full. My mother started talking to a friend of hers about cremation and she wanted cremation. I took her back a year later to change the funeral to cremation. Once it was told to the funeral director, it was supposed to be changed. I asked about the difference of Funeral and cremation and would they be returning the money. He said it was in a trust account and it would be there until the time of her death.

Now the time of death came Feb.21, 2011. When the family went into the arrangement room, the woman director started pecking away on her computer. When she was finished, the bill came to the exact amount in the trust account, to the penny. I asked her why and she said 2011 prices. I said we made arrangements for cremation in 2009. They used the families grief to not argue.

Later, I called the South Carolina LLc to make a report. Five months later, they told me that they had found there was wrong doing on the part of the funeral home. I asked what about the money. I was told that I would have to get an attorney and file smal claims. They can fine the funeral home, but I have to get an attorney.
