Successful Failures
If we lived in a time when personal accountability and responsibility were held in high regard, a time during which choosing victimhood from a list of social options would seem utterly stupid, it would suffice to say that successful people aren't victims. But those are not the times we live in, and to some people, perpetual victimhood of one kind or another actually seems an attractive option.

When one examines the lives of successful people, one is impressed by the absence of traits they share in common (which is why self-help books that promise to make you successful don't really deliver). But there is one trait that all successful people have in common they are not victims. Victims do not inspire confidence, they inspire pity. Seasoned investors don't buy into victimhood, because it is a losing proposition.

Successful people don't become victims for another reason they know if they won't take responsibility when things go wrong, they lose the right to take credit when things go right. This is a statement, one among many, of the symmetry principle. Perpetual victims are subject to the symmetry principle also, but because of their utterly negative outlook on life, they don't expect anything ever to go right, so being a victim has no downside.

Successful people are able to read positive signs in a bleak landscape, and they can act on what they see in a creative, constructive way. Victims, by contrast, look out at the same landscape and only see opportunities for further victimhood. Successful people and victims both create self-fulfilling narratives.

Here's a case history of success. A young man is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, thought to be a rather serious condition, but also one that is very controversial, both in deciding who has the condition, and in how to proceed (more on Asperger's here).

There is a lot of latitude in Asperger's, and the more responsible researchers counsel skepticism as to both diagnosis and treatment. An individual could take this diagnosis and use it as an excuse to be a lifelong victim (some have done just that). Or, because those diagnosed with Asperger's tend to be bright, one might choose to take it as a sign of superior ability.

What did our young man do? Did he try for sympathy and start a pattern of self-victimization that might have lasted his entire life? Or did he accept the cards he was dealt and find his place in the world?

Well, he did the latter. He became the richest man in the world: Bill Gates.

Most successful people learn how to be successful, they are not born with an instinct for success. By the same token, perpetual, professional victims are trained, not born. Where do they get this training?

Chocolate & Lilac Lovers BEWARE:
Anyone seeking these beautiful colors should BEWARE of the town crier, also known as Melanie Lowry, also know as Annie Westlake. These are just a few of the names that she uses to practice the ultimate deception!

I have sat as an observer and watched this all unfold and a few simple questions come to mind:

1.) HOW can you Ms. Lowry claim to be such a "victim" and claim to have "lost your cattery business/income" when YOU are the very person who has led many people to your unhappy customer's site to read about you. Good grief woman, do you think that anyone in their right mind would want to buy from you after you yourself lead them to a site that airs all of your own dirty laundry? It is very clear that you are only interested in "the fight" and playing the victim rather than to have a healthy cattery. Afterall, why ELSE would you do this? Rose Marie is not the only person who was interested in breeding these rare colors that has fallen for your manipulating lies. She might be the only one that has a website to warn others about you, but she is not alone in her opinion of you, not by a long shot.

2.) How many newbie's have you, Ms. Lowry/Westlake, promised "show quality" and then sent them a problem animal or one with no papers? Do you fail to provide papers because your name is now mud? WHY would you treat people who were kind to you inspite of all the warnings not to be, like dirt? Just like the story of the Scorpion and the Frog, you can't help yourself because it is your nature, even to your own demise. And do you think that just because a Persian/Himalayan has an extreme face that it makes it "show quality"?? Are you not aware of all the other factors in a "Show Cat"?? Perhaps if you had stopped fighting and suing your unhappy customers long enough to concentrate on the animals then so much of the things that you are accused of wouldn't be true?? But, they are, and that is why you won't let visitors come into your home. More than one, more than two, actually three different people who don't care for each other at all, have the same opinion in common of you and the environment that your cats are in.

3.) WHY would there be a chocolate-persian site with 2 hidden pages?? If you haven't done anything wrong, then why in the world are these pages hidden? Who in their right mind would trust anything on that site?? Or pay a fee to use it???

Perhaps it is early dementia setting in that would make you think that what you are doing is okay or right in any way shape or form. You have the "tainted touch", everything and everyone that you come in contact with ends up tainted from it. You found a way to get attention through Rose Marie's site and you have fed from it and used other people's kindness and exploited and manipulated for your own benefit. You are a "perpetual victim", that is what you live for. Your greatest mistake is that you have mistaken kindness for weakness. You are always claiming to be "getting out of cats", well, PLEASE DO!!

I know that none of this is true!
You contacted me the day after you got the kitten telling me that your vet said the cat had a fatal eye disease called monostrabismus and would need several surgeries, and that this would eventually cause the cat's demise.You made a huge deal out of it, telling me you did not want a cat that was going to die or need lots of surgeries and that your vet was the best and you had used her for years. I told you to bring the cat back.

I explained I had not ever heard of this "disease" so I looked it up on the web.
To my shock and surprise, it means "cross eyed" in one eye! Hardly a fatal condition, nor one needing surgery, and one that a kitten is likely to grow out of. As the Himalayan comes from the Siamese color gene, a cat widely known for being cross eyed, I was not worried and explained to you again that you could bring her back. You declined and seemed surprised by my explanation of "monostrabismus" and that seemed to be the end of it, as I advised you to look it up yourself if you did not believe me. Funny you don't mention that here.

You never mentioned anything about her being aggressive, and she never exhibited that trait here, and like I said I never heard from you again!

You have my email address and could have contacted me that way, which is the way you originally contacted me, so one has to ask the question here, why would you write to my house instead of my email?. You never had my home address, so you have stated a falsehood with that statement as well, as you could not have sent letters that were returned with no forwarding address, well maybe you could have since you were never given my address, you would have had to make one up. You also had my phone number as we talked several times on the phone! Why didn't you call me?

I explained to you that your vet had mislead you, but that I would take the cat back. You got very defensive about the vet so I left it at that and you said you did not want to bring the cat back.

You never told me that you had contacted another breeder, so that is false and misleading as well and I would not have ever said that. I am not afraid of other breeders, most know me and my cats. But that said, you should have only brought it to my attention first.

You have made a mountain out of a molehill, for what reason? It seems that you have a problem with the truth and maybe your vet does as well.

I am more than happy to take the cat back, if she is not wanted even after all these years. One has to wonder why you would put up with this kind of behavior for that amount of time.

"Bred it out"? I am sure I would not have said that either since I never had a problem with aggressive cats.

Tamara is right, she obviously is not happy with you!

But the real question here is why would a vet act like this?

Oh, and one more thing, sometimes animals, just like children have different temperaments, it does not mean they have been treated wrongly by the breeder. I would suggest that she is exhibiting the aggressive behavior against the one who treated her wrongly since I never saw that kind of behavior from her. And to make a compliant about a cats temperament shows what kind of a person you really are!

I have several of Melanie's cats and I know first hand that they are the sweetest most loving cats I have ever know.
I bought my mother one of Melanie's cats for her birthday and we all fell in love with this little heart stealer. I wrote to Melanie many times about the wonderful personality of this little girl who is a lilac colored cat. She came to us as this wonderful fluffy little thing that ran through the house meowing looking for us and then would leap into our laps and shower us with kisses.
When it was my birthday I suggested to my husband that I would like to have one of Melanie's cats as a gift. He got me a cat from somewhere else and to this day many years later that cat still hides under the couch.
I made him go to Melanie and to get me the cat I wanted, a little chocolate girl, Sasha who is the love of my life! She sleeps with me, kisses me, chases us around the house then wants to snuggle.
The next year I went back for another of Melanie's cats. We got Sufie, who is the most devoted loving little soul I have ever had the pleasure to know. What a dear baby that washed our hair and sleeps on our pillow. My grandkids dress her up in doll clothes with never a complaint, she rides in the stroller all day for them.
The next year we did it again and brought home Sassy, a little live wire who keeps us entertained by the hour! What a joy to watch these babies in action!
In the meantime my neighbor wanted a companion for her mother, we suggested Melanie's cats. They now have one of Melanie's kids and so does their mom.
And you guessed it, back again for my birthday for another. We think the only problems we have ever had with Melanie's cats is that they are addicting!
May I offer the following;cats are very intuitive and respond to their surroundings, I suggest that there is something wrong in your home, that your cat does not like or is not comfortable with your vibes! Look to yourself for cats reactions. I know Melanie and her cats, they are not as you describe, I also know that if you had told her she would have taken the cat right back, not wanting it to be in a place where it was that unhappy! Look to your demeanor and you will find the answer!
I suggest your cat does not like you and is not happy!

I have found that cats that are bred and caged and then sold to consumers require a few things for good behavior. The breeder must attend to these cats as if they were their own. What this means is that cats as any animal, require attention. They require food , and love and a healthy and clean environment. I purchased a cat from a breeder which unfortunately only provided the food to her animals. I have owned cats all my life and this cat I bought from this lady was just the same as the one you described. I believe on further investigation , you will find that that the breeder you dealt with most likely doesn't provide all the things needed for a normal cat. Ask any veterinarian , it doesn't take rocket science to understand why animals behave the way they do.
