As I've read in multiple posts on this website, I am receiving ongoing calls from the infamous "Ken Hughes", stating that "It's important you contact Ken Hughes at 888-249-4134. This is not a solicitation or a sales call.Once again, it is very important you contact Ken Hughes at 888-249-4134. Thank you."
These calls are becoming more frequent, from various numbers:
5/18/2006 12:04PM 312-470-2620
5/20/2006 10:35AM 312-470-2620
5/23/2006 10:15AM 312-470-2620

6/25/2006 9:49AM 888-249-4134
6/25/2006 1:53PM 888-249-4134
I believe they are trying to get in touch with someone who may have had my number before I did.
I have never received written communication from Merchants.
Merchants has not pinged any of the three major reporting agencies.
I have never had a problem with my credit.
How do I get them to stop attempting to contact me? I do not want to call them, or send them a cease and desist letter using my personal information as I am afraid that would open a new avenue for them to contact me.
I did contact my local phone provider to see how I could block these calls. This will cost me an additional fee every month - which I'm beginning to think might be worth it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Roberta....A few suggestions..

Roberta,
First, it helps to properly classify your Rip off Report. You posted under Telemarketers, but they are NOT Telemarketers. They are a collection agency and a junk debt buyer too.
Your post should be under the COLLECTION AGENCY Section.
You CAN send a CEASE COMMUNICATION letter to them using ONLY whatever information they are currently using to contact you with. There is no need to provide any additional information.
Just change your number to an unlisted one and be sure to ask the phone company for a number that has been inactive the longest, or a new# that has not been previously used by anyone.
