Send a letter requesting validation of the debt via Registered Mail with Return Receipt to all credit bureaus and the collection agency

What has happened to you is a new form of extortion....Junk debt collection agencies put bogus negative entries on your credit report to force you to pay them so that you'll get your credit rating back....The big three credit bureaus enable this behavior as they are mainly concerned with their profits...not with the accuracy of the info they report...so when some scam collection agency reports negative info about you...they don't bother to verify the accuracy and report the bogus info "as is."
