Metro PCS:  Dont Do It!!

My sister and I were shopping around, looking at different carriers, in-store and on-line.  I saw the Rhapsody Plan on the Metro PCS website.

I thought it might be right for my sister.  As for me, I already have a contract plan with another carrier, but was shopping for a simple secondary phone, no frills.  So looking further into the Rhapsody Plan, it appeared it was a good, economical fit for my sister.  5G data with unlimited talk  and text, or so the ad said.

Of course, I thought, well, what would be the sacrifice?  Dropped calls?  Poor sound quality?  Limited phone selection?  Given that we were trying to stay within a budget, we thought wed give it a shot.

Whatd we have to lose?  We soon found out.  We definitely lost a day trying to chase down getting a full refund and return at the store we originally purchased the phones from.  According to the Metro PCS website, this store should have been open, but was not.

When we had originally gone to the store on Saturday, we looked forward to exploring these alleged economical options.  We told the sales representative, Mr. Baet, that we were interested in the Rhapsody Plan.

He asked how we knew about that plan, and we told him about the online ad.

So we shopped, picked out our phones and plans.  I went with the $25 talk and text plan which he was selling at $30, and made it sound like he was cutting me a good deal.  The truth is and was:  it was already a deal in effect through Metro PCS for $25.

My sister bought a phone for $149, and of course, there wasnt much to choose from at the store.

But, we looked forward to the $60 rate for the Rhapsody Plan with 5G data.

While I was distracted doing my own thing, learning my new secondary phone, Mr. Baet was drawing the paper work.  What I wasnt really paying attention to was that Mr. Baet wasnt on the up and up.

He drew up the paper work for the $50 plan with 2.5G data, and then added the Rhapsody feature for $10, which, when we spoke to customer service was not the same as having the Rhapsody Plan.  And btw, we didnt realize the serious flaw in paperwork because Mr. Baet had scribbled and scrawled, and had somehow convinced my sister that he did sign her up for Rhapsody Plan.

No, he did not.  So in talking to customer service, we wanted it clarified and corrected.  Customer service offered to change it to the proper plan, but for an additional $9 and some change for the plan change.

We contested that the error was not ours, and that we had requested the Rhapsody Plan.  Metro PCS Customer Service wouldnt budge.

We were getting upset.

We had been duped, and insult on top of injury, Metro PCS was not willing to help correct the matter.

From my standpoint, I told Metro PCS, this is false advertising.  We saw an ad, we wanted the plan, we went to a dealer, asked for this plan, and got something completely different.

In addition to false advertising, we were dealing with someone intent on perpetrating a fraudulent act.

In the course of trying to get a full refund and return, we discover that Mr. Baet was not at his store, nor was the store open as indicated on the Metro PCS website.  I called customer service yet again, and asked if we could return the phones and get a refund at another location.  I was told yes.

So we went to the El Monte location on Peck Road, waited patiently for our turn for at least 25 minutes, only to find that the representatives there would not do returns or refunds because it would change our inventory.

By this point, I was livid. False advertising for the Rhapsody Plan that we did not receive, plus having been defrauded by a dishonest sales person, in addition to more misinformation about a store that was conveniently closed for the day that should have been open was enough to piss me off and write this, in addition to considering all the other options at my disposal.  Considering my sister had ported her number from another carrier, and paid for it, we would have expected better service.  At this point, we have unsuccessfully received full refunds and returns.  We have seven days, and weve already lost one.

If we dont use up an hour of time on either phone, we can get a full refund.  Ahh, but that is a catch, isnt it?  Customer Service kept me on the phone for 20 minutes on the cell I purchased, but other than that, I have not used it at all.  Scam??  My sister and I have powered down both phones and plan a return visit to see Mr. Baet.

We expect yet another unpleasant experience.  Metro PCS isnt being accommodating, and we expect little cooperation from Mr. Baet. Legal action may be imminent.  As I said, I am exploring all my options as this goes on.  If youre considering Metro PCS, dont.  I understand times are tough, and economics rule over us all, but save yourself some grief.

Metro PCS is no better than any other carrier in terms of good faith and good business.  The phones are mediocre at best.  Customer service is definitely not a strong suit.  Do you get what you pay for?  It appears to be so.  There are other options.  Give those other options greater consideration before you resort to using Metro PCS.
