This is something that happened to me about three years ago. I didn't make waves about it then but I see that there is an ongoing practice still, as I see it, of this establishement to defraud customers as a group out of considerable amounts of money and in my opinion misuse North Miami Beach police officers (who by now should have figured out the practice is not right) as thugs to force patrons to pay money they rightfully should not legally have to pay or take the option of not dinning in at the expense of public humiliation of a police escort.

What hapened to me. I came into the bar of this restaurant and wanted to order a beer. They offered me a special where you can get 5 beers for a lower price than if you bought them individually. I had the ay off and planned on relaxing for a while.

While I was sitting there I heard another person ask about having to pay additional for a pay view fight that was coming on the in the establishment. They had ordered dinner and did not know about "having to pay" but became concerned when they heard. Apparently the bar wanted each patron to pay additional money because a pay fight was coming on the monitors.

I said to her, it would be crazy that a restaurant would not post a sign about having to pay nor not inform you before you order that in order to stay and enjoy your order you will need to pay. I was confident and assured her that standard practice is that if a person was dinning they would be allowed to finish and only people entering after the pay TV time would have to pay. I was wrong about this place.

There was no warning, no signs posted and no indication at the time of ording. Suddenly the server comes up and says you have to pay. I said to the server that I was not informed of such fee and I would not have ordered if I was told such. I'm not paying double for a few beers.

I also stated that I intended to enjoy my order just as I would had there been no fight. The server insisted I pay anyway. I was not finished with my order and no-way was I going to pay over and above what I agreed to pay for my order.

A manager then came over and said I had to pay. I explained again I was not informed. He said I have to leave. Finish my order and leave immediately. I was not going to chug a full beer and a half. I told him I would leave when I was finished and I was not going to get drunk to satisfy his demands. It was their mistake not to inform customers.

He called the cops (who were already outside before he approached me). I had not closed my tab yet. The cops came told me to leave and stood by me, one on each side. Now everyone in the restaurant was staring at me.

They (the management and the cops) had made a scene because I did not give them the money. I explained to the cops that I still owe for the order, it was my legal agreement and my beer. I state I was not going to consume liquor irresponsibly and I was not going to pay for the TV. The cops didn't know what to do (but really I felt the threat was already implied by the management that I was a law breaker and this is what the patrons watching were thinking). The manager then took the tab and tore it up. He said "I'll pay it". Which removed me from owing and no longer made the last beer mine. I said good, now I will leave. The cops walked out with me.

Before I left there was a man next to me who said, they must have someting against you because they did not insist I pay. He was right; I thought.

Now I look at the reviews on a main web search engine and I see that they had forced another person who complained and his whole party to pay $10 each to stay and finish their meal because a paid fight came on the TV. So maybe they used the spectacle of police bouncing a person to intimidate all patrons as a whole,

As far as I see, if something is not made clear when a customer enters and establishment or orders and it is reasonable for that customer to have the normal amount of time to sit in a restaurant, but yet instantly demanding payment with threat of the use of police force is nothing short of extortion in my opinion. Call it bait and switch if you like. Call it false police reports, either way it is injust.
