"Legal" why don't you answer the questions posted here?

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, March 11, 2006

"Legal",

I have posted on numerous other threads and have gotten no answers. I have posted on this thread and got no answers.

Let there be no mistake, there is NO CONFUSION on my part.

Any business who only uses a PO Box is a fraud. Period.

No confusion there.

Why are you not listed in any directories?
Why do you not have a corporation filing or LLC, or even a dba?
Why do you not publish a physical business address?
Why do you not have a published, LISTED business phone#?

I can answer all of these questions. You are NOT a legal business entity! That's why!

What are you hiding from?

If you are really in business you can post your full legal name here and valid contact info.

Why won't you post your real name?

Because you are a fraud, operating an illegal scam. That's why.

How can a business that does not exist have a legal department?

so, post to your website about the problesm

AUTHOR: Denny - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 09, 2006

Whta prevents you from getting your ACT together, and post REAL information to your website

A contact email address
A TOLL free number
A PHYSICAL ADDRESS for your place of business.

The more a company has to hide, the more dubious their presence is.

the fact remains, your company is engaging in advertising tactics that are borderline illegal; the installation of software withou the users permission to do so, via a webscript is not only morally inept on your companie's part, but in many states and ILLEGAL to do so.

4 step download process my a**. I belive that as much as I belive that MJ is innocent of molesting little boys.

Steve:

We do not get notice when a consumer comment is posted, as such, we only found out about these reports recently. Upon discovering the reports, we posted responses to EACH AND EVERY comment however the site did not post them all.

We inquired with the site operator who informed us that only two rebuttals can be posted per day. Accordingly, it will take us some time to respond to everyone.

Further, we attempt to correct factual inaccuracies from all commenters, not just our customers. Unfortunately, some people make factually inaccurate statements and publish them here without ever trying the product -- that only slows down the response process.

Hopefully, this clears up some of the confusion.

NO Legitimate business who has a website, does so without clearly posting physical address info and contact info.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 01, 2006

I guess I'm invisible here.

NO Legitimate business who has a website, does so without clearly posting physical address info and contact info.

I have been to the Movieland "website". There is not one shred of corporate info, or any other identifying info on it.

WHO is Movieland? WHO are the owners? WHERE is the business licensed to operate? WHAT is the type of entity?

Maybe the IRS can get me some information.

I know I pushed the hot buttons on the questions that will not get answered. Obviously for good reason.

There cannot be the number of complaints on any one "company" if they are not true. In business, PERCIEVED problems are REAL problems. They affect your bottom line. True or not.

Lorraine:

We mistakenly believed that you had an actual experience with our product. Given your statements above, we now realize that your opinions are loosely based on your review of a very small percentage of our consumer comments. Indeed, the comments posted here do not represent even one half of one percent of our customers.

Clearly, Movieland is owned and operated by a real company. We direct your attention to the many posts here that indicate the various DOTSTER and ARIN registries.

There are no drive-by or silent installations as suggested by you and some of the visitors to this website. Such conduct is prohibited by law. The Attorney General and the FTC vigorously prosecute such conduct. Our product is in full compliance with all state and federal statutes, rules, and regulations.

We remain committed to providing meaningful responses to our actual customers who present genuine issues, whether they post them here, or whether they contact us directly. And we wish you success in all of your future endeavors.

This "Legal" character is so full of B.S.!

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 01, 2006

This "Legal" character does not even realize that Lorraine is not the one who was victimized here.

I cannot even stomach the level of condescending tone here. Although this "Legal" idiot still will not post any company information to the actual legal dept if it really exists.

FYI.. A company may post Names, addresses, and weblinks in rebuttal to any post in effort to clear up the problem. So "Legal" is full of crap.

This kind of info is posted here everyday.

People click on that banner to get rid of the movieland popup and when they do, it installs the code. That is fraud and is illegal.

This "Movieland" is obviously some scam being run from some freaks bedroom, and this "legal" idiot is probably the "owner".

On the domain registration, they show a PO box, but will only accept certified or express mail!

Yeah, OK.

Movieland does not exist as a legal entity. They are not officially in business, as no physical business address or listed business phone# exists, nor is there any business license listed or fictitious name filing.

I wonder how they report that income to the IRS?

Might have to make a few phone calls.

My reply to Mr. MovieLand Legal

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Legal says: "As you may have noticed, this website frequently edits out phone numbers and links. If you would like to speak with somebody in the Legal Department you must leave a message including your phone number and the best times to reach you."

The best time to reach me is about 4 am your time. I have a feeling no one would be in the office. I keep 3rd shift hours, so I am not awake normally during your office hours, which is why I asked for a contact number. One day when I wake up earlier than normal I will call you. I want to speak with you, not just anyone in the legal dept. You can email your number to the EDitor of this site and he will pass it on to me.

Legal says: "If you still sincerely believe that nobody downloaded our software onto your computer, I am happy to pull up the records associated with your IP address and verify the exact ad responded to and the exact content downloaded to your terminal. Perhaps this will help you discover who is accessing your computer terminal and for what purpose."

How prefectly condescending of you. I build my own computers, I install my own OS, I run every security program known to man and I don't appreciate you talking to me as if I'm a stupid newbie or a child. I probably know more about computers than you ever will, so drop the attitude please. You mention you can verify the ads people respond to and get your Movieland code. Please share the names and URL's of these ads with everyone reading here.

NO one touches my computer. My husband has two of his own to use and we never touch the other's computer. All our friends are online, so no one other than the two of us are inside this apartment ever. We have no children or pets that can type. Unless I am running a static IP number, how would you even trace one to me? You couldn't. The only way you'd find the user of a dynamic IP adress, which most ISP's use these days, is via a court order asking the ISP to reveal the account accessing that IP a a certain date and time. Nice try. Got some other excuses?

Legal says: "In the meantime, I strongly suggest that you look into password protection to restrict access to your computer. You may also wish to purchase and install filtering software. If you suspect that a member of your household is deceiving you about their internet surfing habits, you may find that a keystroke logging program will be illuminating."

So let me get this correct. You are telling me I should password protect my computer against myself? Now that's funny.

Legal says: "Your complaint of "innocent download" is not unique. We investigate these complaints regularly. In one hundred percent of the "innocent download" cases, we have discovered that a different member of the household is responsible for the download. Sometimes it is babysitter or out-of-town guest, but more often it is a member of the household."

When did I complain about an innocent download? You obviously haven't read all the reports on this website about your company or you would realize that I have never been victimized by Movieland. I've been in here telling people how to get rid of your nasty code, so they can get use of their computers back. If you really did investigate as you claim, then you would know how many people have had their computers hijacked. Instead you choose to close your eyes, stick your head up your ... err, in the sand .. and blame others for their little problem with the code. The only way any company would have a 100% record is if they were out of business.

Again, no one has access to my computer. No children, no guests ever come here. Others that have filed reports are the same and yet you keep trying to convince them, someone, who was never in their house, or in there without their knowledge, downloaded your code.

Legal says: "As stated above, we are sorry to learn that you cannot sort this matter out with the other members of your household. But given you the depth of your concern, and clear misunderstanding of how our product is installed, we will spend the time necessary to help you discover the truth."

It's hard to 'sort it out' when there IS no one else who uses my computer. There is no truth to discover. Everyone who reads these reports knows perfectly well what the truth is .. your company is lying and trying to rip them off in order for them to get a functioning computer again. If you are so assured about Movieland, how come you don't post your contact info so I can call you one day when I wake up early? How come you hide behind 'Legal' instead of giving your name? Honest companies aren't afraid to do either.
--------

Below is a short history of reports filed on this site about Movieland. These are reports from only those who KNOW for a fact they did not click on an 'install' button to downlown your program. These are mostly the reports and victims you have never bothered to answer. You have only responded on about 3 or 4 reports and then for the most part you just attacked Denny and I, the people who have been in here trying to help them. You just gave lip service and blame to the victims. You did forget about Steve though. I'm sure he's feeling left out about now, so you may wanna attack him next, instead of helping another new victim that posts.

I've included the report numbers at the end of each quote, so it will be easy for you to find them in here and see for yourself that you did in fact not reply to 'all the reports'.

--------
11-1-2005 first report is filed against Movieland.
--------
We received an Excel spreadsheet from a friend that had pictures of movie clips and you had to try to guess the name of the movie. We never went to the internet for help. This company MovieLand added something on my computer that same day. There must have been a link in the Excel spreadsheet. We did not sign up for anything. Report 162962.
--------
My favorite part of these notices is the choices you are given if you go to the actual web site to try to stop them, because no matter what you pick you have to pay them for a product that you do not know was there until payment notices began. Now I thought that if I chose "I never signed up for this service, I would like to cancel." that was what I would be doing but instead another payment request with a nice notice. "It is impossible for this software to exsist on your system without a user activating a four step download. Oh but better then it goes on to tell that they know that multipal users may use one computer. Well in my case I know for a fact that only two people are using my computer and neither of us went through any four step installation process. Report 167032.
--------
My 5 year old daughter hit some keys on my key board and somehow downloaded this crap. Report 168349.
--------
They not only lied re. my installing the software, they didn't even have the correct IP Address. Somehow yesterday I got to a page that would allow me to send an email(don't ask me how. After expressing my feelings I got a screen that stated it would allow me to cancel immediately (Thank God I took a screen shot). Of course I selected yes and I got a pop up that said I was cancelled and all is well with the world again.

Guess what? It all came back today. So here I go again!. Seeing the program does not show up in the control panel(Add/Remove Programs) or in the listing of Programs available in windows, I will have to try removing the program other ways. Report 168788
--------
On December 24th 2005 I get a pop up from Movieland that I downloaded their software and Now I have to pay them. Every time I go into Yahoo, their pop up appears. I cannot get rid of it. I have never downloaded any software from them or anyone else. this is a business computer and they are now preventing me from accepting files from a major contract. Report 169236.
--------
I never downloaded site movieland.com but somehow it got on my computer. there was a 3 day trial that I didn't know about because I didn't download it. I know this because I deleted it but when I was notified that a trial had expired I checked my trash bin and it said the terms were downloaded at 7am. No one is on the computer that early at my home. Report 168897.
--------
The date and time they say I logged into them is inconsistant with the date and time the notifier is saying i signed in. I dont know what else to do here and I saw alot of you having the same problem with this company. Like most of you, I wasn't even home at the times they are talking about and neither were my children. Report 169921.
--------
I have never heard of MovieLand before this started. I have never signed up with them for a free trial or anything else. They say I signed up on 12-22-05. I was not at home on my computer at the time they say this happened. Report 170041.
--------
I've writen 4 different e-mail message asking them to remove me and stop sending the pop ups asking for money. The last time I TRIED TO SEND ANOTHER ONE THEY DIDN'T LET MY E-MAIL GO THROUGH. i'm geting a page now that says the webb page i used for the last 4 e-mail has been cancelled. Report 170483.
--------
After about 3-4 minutes of being on hold and being transfered about, "Henry", who had a young sounding voice, asked for my Customer Account Number (which was running on the pop-up at the time),and then said he would delete it. No questions, no arguing, no smart-a*s remarks. He told me I would have to restart my computer (again) and it would be gone. That was 2 days ago, so far so good. Report 171055.
--------
I was trying to view a video feed and it said I had to download Medai pipe software, so I just closed it and then 3 days later I was told my trial period was up ad that I must pay for services. Report 171876.
--------
I downloaded their program, which didn't work. I was not able to cancel during the three day trial. Had pop ups on my computer everytime you change between programs that would take over the whole computer and not allow you to cancel or stop it. Report 173831.
--------
Looking at the date and time it was "purchased"on my computer, I realized it wasn't possible that any of us could have downloaded it, even by accident.

I proceeded to check out the add/remove program section of the control panel on my computer. The program that they claim we downloaded isn't even there. Report 174540.
--------
My 13 year old daughter keeps getting pop ups from Movieland.com stating she owes money for a service she never signed up for. In the terms it states a person must be at least 21 years of age to access this. Report 176948.
--------
I did'nt want this service but It downloaded through a trick pop-up add. I was bombarded with spam telling me that my three day free period was up and I had to pay for there sevice or It will go to collections like Trans Union. I did'nt download this site. Report 178418.
--------
2-27-2006 Legal finally posts for the first time, athough he claims he has responded to *all* reports filed. The quotes above are not nearly all the reports filed remember, just some I picked that he didn't reply to, working from oldest to newest.
--------
Legal posts and blames 'someone else' to a single owner computer user. Report 172845.
--------
The company does pop ups and then my 16 year old who says he didn't and reading other people scam list on them is they say you did. Nnumber one he is 16, my husband doesn't use the computer and I wouldn't chose them.

Legal responds: "We are sorry to learn that your husband or son downloaded our product without your consent." You need reading lessons Mr. Lawyer. Report 173115.
--------

Does anyone out there reading Legal's rebuttals believe one word of what he's trying to convince us all of?

My 5 year old daughter hit some keys on my key board and somehow downloaded this crap. Report 168349.

Dear Lorraine:

As you may have noticed, this website frequently edits out phone numbers and links. If you would like to speak with somebody in the Legal Department you must leave a message including your phone number and the best times to reach you.

If you still sincerely believe that nobody downloaded our software onto your computer, I am happy to pull up the records associated with your IP address and verify the exact ad responded to and the exact content downloaded to your terminal. Perhaps this will help you discover who is accessing your computer terminal and for what purpose.

In the meantime, I strongly suggest that you look into password protection to restrict access to your computer. You may also wish to purchase and install filtering software. If you suspect that a member of your household is deceiving you about their internet surfing habits, you may find that a keystroke logging program will be illuminating.

Your complaint of "innocent download" is not unique. We investigate these complaints regularly. In one hundred percent of the "innocent download" cases, we have discovered that a different member of the household is responsible for the download. Sometimes it is babysitter or out-of-town guest, but more often it is a member of the household.

As stated above, we are sorry to learn that you cannot sort this matter out with the other members of your household. But given you the depth of your concern, and clear misunderstanding of how our product is installed, we will spend the time necessary to help you discover the truth.

LOL Legal is touchy

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 28, 2006

Gee Denny, it seems you touched a nerve there with Mr. Legal. I decided to call the company one more time before I go to bed today and I got basically the same result. The phone op who answered kept asking me how he could help me and I told him he couldn't, I wanted to be put thru to their legal dept to deal with the man who's been posting on this site representing the company. He wouldn't do that and told me I could leave my name and number for someone to get back to me .. yeah suuuuure I'm gonna do that. He also wouldn't confirm if they even had a legal dept, so I'm still under the impression they do not have one, as the original phone tech I talked to a few weeks ago informed me.

I then asked for a supervisor or a manager. None are there of course. He suggested trying back later on today and I may be able to speak to one. I somehow doubt they will be in if I would try again.

So again, I ask Mr Legal to post a number I can reach him at, so we can discuss this movieland mess. Next move is yours Mr Legal .. if you truly are a legal rep for the company, you surely have a phone number you can post that I can call you directly, since the guys that answer the toll free number refuse to put me thru to you.

"Legal" is a joke! .....And....Movieland IS a SCAM.

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 28, 2006

They are so terrified with the thought of a "customer" actually contacting them, they offer no VALID means of contact by means of an actual CUSTOMER SERVICE number.

This "Legal" character is obviously a MORON. There you go "Legal", go ahead and sue me.

Your posts are laughable at best. What a retard.

Your company fraudulently infects someones computer without the knowledge or consent of that customer, and then you expect them to pay when you attempt to block access and functionality with repeat popups.

Have I missed anything?

Who on this board has willingly downloaded anything from these scumbags?

To Denny in Honolulu

AUTHOR: Legal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 27, 2006

Denny, in Honolulu, writes:

"All the complaints on this website so far has to do with an obtrusive pop-up by Movieland that blocks the user from using their computer"

MOVIELAND RESPONDS:

We are sensitive to the fact that Internet surfers do not want to give personally identifying information and so we offer our product on a trial basis for free, without requiring credit card ifnormation. This is the only way we can offer our product on a free trial basis without collecting information. We have tens of thousands of satisfied paying customers.

Please see our response above which clearly explains how the software is downloaded. The advertisement clearly sets forth the terms and conditions in a short statement. We make every effort, but no matter how clear the terms, no matter how brief the explanation, we cannot force people to read the description before they install.

Denny, in Honolulu, writes:

"They did not install any programs.
They did not say "yes" to any banners."

MOVIELAND RESPONDS:

You are mistaken. The software must be manually installed. There is no other way to get this software. Clicking "Cancel" or the "X" box will completely halt the download and no payment reminders will ever issue.

Denny, in Honolulu, writes:

"Simply "closing' the pop-up could be another 'scammer' tactic, but 'sensing' the closing and then automatically "loading' the malware/spyware/adware onto a consumes computer"

MOVIELAND RESPONDS:

Again, we assure you that this is not the case. The FTC and the Attorney General would not tolerate such criminal conduct. We fully comply with all state and federal laws.

Denny, in Honolulu, writes:

"Suffice to say, movielands' perferred method of 'gaining' customers is highly dubious, and I will continue to see that instructions on how to remove their crapware for consumers are updated daily."

MOVIELAND RESPONDS:

You are tortiously interfering with our economic relationships. We strongly suggest that you contact an attorney before continuing with your ill-advised conduct.

Denny, in Honolulu, writes:

"Just now, a pop up from Myspace.com showed up looking like a "windows warning" window, and when i "closed" it, another pop-up happened, for the same company that put that "fake' warning up. Again, dubious."

MOVIELAND RESPONDS:

We are not affiliated with Myspace in any way. Your comments are factually incorrect and amount to libel. The removal instructions you are recklessly posting have caused dozens of users to tamper with their registries and damage their own systems.

Legal you missed ht point entirely

AUTHOR: Denny - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 27, 2006

All the complaints on this website so far has to do with an obtrusive pop-up by Movieland that blocks the user from using their computer

They did not install any programs.
They did not say "yes" to any banners.

The program is "auto" downloaded and installed onto their computer via cookies or malware, and the user is then subjected to overly intrusive advertisment and accusatory language that says they 'owe' money.

This is fraud. The advertisements are intrusive, and make like it was the users fault.

Simply "closing' the pop-up could be another 'scammer' tactic, but 'sensing' the closing and then automatically "loading' the malware/spyware/adware onto a consumes computer

Suffice to say, movielands' perferred method of 'gaining' customers is highly dubious, and I will continue to see that instructions on how to remove their crapware for consumers are updated daily.

A kick to their bottomline is alot easier once people are informed of their highly dubious advertising tactics..

Just now, a pop up from Myspace.com showed up looking like a "windows warning" window, and when i "closed" it, another pop-up happened, for the same company that put that "fake' warning up. Again, dubious.

Legal Department

AUTHOR: Legal - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 27, 2006

Movieland.com is a real company that licenses real software. The software allows users to search the internet for a variety of video content and view it on their home computer. IT IS NOT A VIRUS. IT IS NOT MALWARE. IT IS NOT SPYWARE. IT IS NOT ADWARE. The payment reminders that issue are an anti-fraud mechanism and are perfectly legal. They will NOT issue if you cancel during the free trial period or buy the software during the trial period.

Here's how it works: a consumer sees a pop-up ad for a free three day trial. Right on the ad, in standard sized font, in plain English, are the terms:

"By clicking on this advertisement and installing the Media Pipe access software, I affirm that I am over 21 years of age and wish to participate in the Movieland 3-Day Free Trial. I understand that if I do not cancel within the trial period that I will be legall obligated to purchase the Media Pipe software for $81.36. I understand that if I do not cancel or pay within the trial period then I will receive payment reminders until such time that I satisfy my financial obligation. Uninstalling the Media Pipe software will not cancel you out of your trial offer. You must cancel through the Customer Service link on the website."

After clicking on the ad, an install box will come up. The default setting on the box is "CANCEL" so if the consumer merely presses "Enter" the installation will NOT happen. Likewise if the user clicks the "X" box in the upper right corner, the installation will NOT happen. If, and only if, the user manually selects and clicks "Run" or "Install" then another box will come up. This box is also set to "CANCEL" so pressing "Enter" will prevent the install. Likewise, clicking the "X" on this box will cancel the install. So for the third time, the user must select and click on "Run" or "Install." After three days have passed, if you have not cancelled and have not paid, you get a pop-up payment reminder.

The reminders can be minimized. They only run for about a minute while your payment options are explained. As soon as the customer pays for the software the payment reminders stop running forever. If the payment does not clear, however, then the reminders will start again.

These payment reminders are no different than when you subscribe to a magazine and check "Bill Me Later." The magazine comes and then later you get a payment reminder in the mail.

Movieland.com has noticed very strange instructions on the internet about how to attempt to defraud Movieland by not paying for the Movieland software and removing the payment reminders. These instructions are NOT put out by Movieland. They are not only misleading, but following these irresponsible directions can cause serious damage to your computer system.

The Media Pipe software is easily removed through the Add/Delete programs function on your computer there is no need to tamper with your registry. However, please note that removing the Media Pipe software does not cancel the trial offer and it does not stop the payment reminders. If it keeps coming back onto your computer Juan and you have gotten rid of it for awhile after using system restore (following my instructions above), then I am thinking you are getting it again from either a website you visit online or from some program you have downloaded that has it bundled in the code.

Keep an eye on what websites you visit and any new free programs you download like screensavers, smilies and those type things. Movieland is being put into those kind of freeware programs I've read. So even if you get rid of it, you will continue to get it back when you use the programs again or visit the websites that are giving it out without your knowledge. You will have to get rid of the originating program or not visit the website again to keep it off your computer for good.

Make sure you are running programs such as AdAware, AVG and Zone Alarm at ALL times that you are online and surfing. They will protect you from picking up malicious programs such as this horrible Movieland.

How to get rid of Movieland

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 30, 2005

Hello everyone. Denny from Hawaii and I have been trying to help people with this MovieLand problem as we see their reports in here. We at first were telling people to get AdAware, AVG and Zone Alarm, all free for download online and that was helping some people, but not all. I've done more searching and here is what I've found. Please feel free to copy this report and use it to help others.

Movieland is one nasty bit of code that you have picked up while online. After seeing report after report filed on this annoying popup and request for monies for a product you never requested, I started searching the web. I will post below the different methods people have found to rid themself of this, but I will warn you, some of it is for more advanced computer users.

I've come to the conclusion that most people have probably picked it up when they, or someone that was using their computer, downloaded a freebie online. Something such as a screensaver, smilie faces, those type of things offered that are known to come loaded down with malicious code such as adware, spyware, trojan horses or viruses. Most don't seem to be getting it from the Movieland website itself.

Please print out these instructions before you start, as you won't have internet access as you do all of it!

The easiest method I have found so far is if you know the approx. day the movieland popup started on your computer. If you know this, then you should use system restore. If you haven't used it before, it will reset your computer to an earlier date and rid you of what movieland put on it. It will also get rid of any programs you have put on your computer yourself after the day you reset to, so this method is not for everyone if you have done a lot of program installs you don't want to lose and have to reinstall.

You find system install here: Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore

You will want to have the 'set my computer to an earlier time' box clicked in the System Restore Wizard. Then click 'next'. You then see the calendar and set it to a date earlier than the day the movieland popup started on your computer by clicking on the date you want. You can tell the dates with a restore point as they are darker in color. Then click 'next'. Do not have any other programs running as you do this! Now system restore will take you back to the earlier date and reboot your computer. When that is done it will ask you if you are sure and tell it yes.

Now you shouldn't have the popup any longer. If you do, you may want to try doing another system restore to yet a few days or a week earlier to the date you just got done setting it back to. If that doesn't work, then you will have to use one of the more extreme methods to rid yourself of this awful code. If it did work, there is just one more thing you should do to ensure it doesn't come back:

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore

In the System Restore wizard, select the box next to "Create a restore point" and click 'next'.
Type a description for your newly made restore point. Something like "After my Movieland cleanup" or "After my trojan/spyware cleanup". Click 'Create' and you're done.

--------

Another method a few have used that didn't want to do a system restore would be to try this:

They have a "cancel link" at their home website. For those that don't know:

1) task manager, end program (to get it off your screen)
2) enter homesite: www.movieland.com
3) bottom right of page, "click here"
4) "general customer support issues"
** at this point you DO NOT have to fill anything in
5) "submit"
6) click "free instant cancel"

Your problems will be over and they will not have your e-mail address!!

The problem with this method is it will only rid you of their annoying popup on your screen. It does NOT remove the code they put into your computer like using System Restore or a manual removal of the code.

--------

For the computer geeks out there that are not scared of messing in their files, there is an advanced way to get rid of all the multi files that have been put on your computer.

I found this info on this website, so credit is given where it's due: http://www.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=422

How to Remove Movieland

Problem:

Movieland has infected your computer. It takes over the whole screen and probably keeps telling you that you owe them money.

Solution:

First, don't pay them or give them any credit card or other info. You don't owe them any money. Movieland is spyware; in other words it's a bad program that you should get rid of.

Here's how to get rid of it:

Click the Start menu, and Control Panel should be in there (or Settings, then Control Panel). Then open Add/Remove Programs. It should open with a big list of things. Look through the list for:

AltPayments,
Media Pipe, or

P2Pnetworks.

Probably just P2PNetworks will be there, and so click on it so it's highlighted, and then click the Remove (or Change/Remove or Add/Remove) button. Tell it you do want to uninstall, and go through its process, then click close. Now it should be gone from the list. If either AltPayments or Media Pipe do happen to be there, do the same process to remove them.

Now close Add/Remove Programs and we're going to Program Files. Open My Computer, then open "Local Disk (C:)", then open Program Files (click on show contents if contents are hidden in either folder). The items we want to delete in there are:

AltPayments or altpayV2
MediaPipe

You also have something about MovieLand Hotmail Something (I don't remember exactly, sorry), possibly at the end of the list rather than under "M" where you'd expect. Delete that also. Anything with Movieland in the title, delete.

You probably don't have p2pnetworks in Program Files (since we just removed it in Add/Remove Programs), but if you do delete it too.

It Didn't Work:

You may get a message that says it cannot delete the file due to it is being used by another person or program and to close all programs. If you get this message, you've got to do more work. Do the following:

1) Download Pocket KillBox from: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip .

2) Restart your computer into safe mode now. To go into safe mode, go into the Start menu, choose Restart just as you normally would, then start hitting the F8 key at the top of the keyboard. Just keep hitting F8 over and over every second or so until it brings you to a black screen giving you some choices. Using your arrow keys on the keyboard, choose Safe Mode, then hit Enter. Then wait a while and it will eventually bring you into Windows Safe Mode.

3) Try deleting the folders in safe mode. Quite possibly you will be able to successfully delete them now. If not, continue with the steps below to have Pocket KillBox force it to delete.

4) Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

5) Now put a tick by Standard File Kill.

6) In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste C:/Program Files/altpayv2 , C:/Program Files/MediaPipe , C:/Program Files/p2pnetworks , and any of the other folders you couldn't delete one at a time. Then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confirmation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

So, to recap, paste these folders in and make sure Deltree is checked before hitting the red x:

C:/Program Files/altpayv2 (and/or AltPayments)
C:/Program Files/MediaPipe
C:/Program Files/p2pnetworks
C:/Program Files/[any folder with Movieland in the title]

Hopefully that does it!

In my experience, deleting these files has successfully cleaned Movieland. So, the hijacking and pop-ups should stop now. But, it's possible there's more than one version of Movieland, so if this doesn't work, you could get serious and do some of the more thorough and time-consuming steps here:

http://forums.techguy.org/security/421861-movieland-media-pipe-spyware-removal.html

or here:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic36432.html

Also, if you had Movieland, chances are good you have other spyware infections as well. So if you have the time, you really should also do the steps in the Preventing Spyware Problems article here: http://home.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=346 .
