Just about everyone in my family knows I've done quite a bit of work on our family tree. The Internet has made it relatively easy to search records nowadays, and with sites out there that specialize in letting you build your family tree online, it's easy to get started.

Lately, though, I've noticed a troubling trend. At least one of those sites operates in an area that I would characterize as 'shady'. Let me explain:

I don't spend much time on the family tree anymore (just too busy), but it's out there in the ether - 50,000 people strong in the Blosser family tree. So it's not unusual for me to get email notifications that in the course of building their own tree, someone else has stumbled onto a connection in mine, and has now 'invited' me to join theirs.

Here's the 'shady' bit. The 'invitation' is not really an invitation at all. I'm 'joining' other peoples' trees whether I want to or not. But it gets more shady.

If one of those people decides they no longer want to manage their tree, they can 'promote' one of their 'members' to 'manager', with no notification whatsoever.

But wait... there's more!

Just today, one of those sites (whose manager is in Germany and I have no clue how we're even related) stopped paying for the site, and apparently 'promoted' me to 'manager'.

I found out quite by accident that this family tree hosting website withdrew $159.20 from my checking account without my authorization!

MyHeritage.com(https://www.facebook.com/myheritage) is losing my business completely as of today.

Be forewarned - do not have anything to do with this company, and please be careful before you set up automatic withdrawals on any account.
