My small poodle who is 13 years old and has had a heart murmer for well over 5 years also is prone to coughs were every 5 months he needs to be put on an antibiotic. I was looking for a vet who is closer to my home and saw that Englwood had been taken over by New Bridge. I made an appointment at Englewood however when I showed up they told me that the appointment was at the New Bridge office.

When I went there Dr. Glennon told me that my dog was in congestive heart failure and that antibiotics would not work. She told me he needed a thousand dollars of tests to decide which heart medicine he could be put on. I told him that I had a dog with diabetes that thousands of dollars later lost his eyesite and ended up having a seizure and lying home alone for hours. I told her that I did not want to go through with this again that the medicines to treat one disease often cause worse problems. I told her that if he could not be cured by the medicine that I could not leave him home every day (I work) to worry about him having a heart attack and suffering.

She told me that there were heart medicines that she could give him that would stablize him without doing a sonogram however if he was in renal failure it would be a "non issue" which lead me to believe that he was dying. She also told me when I mentioned that he needed his shots that she didn't care if he ever got shots again she had to focus on stabilizing him. She did blood work and x-rays and then believe it or not she sent me home with the antibiotic that she told me would not work "just in case".

Then the next day she called me and told me he had to have the sonogram before she would give him heart medication. Another $500 test. Meanwhile the antibiotic had started working and he was much better. Seven days
later the cough was gone and he is running around the house. Yes he still has the heart murmer that he has had for a long time but he obviously was not in congestive heart failure.

The only problem now is he is limping because of his back leg. He has joint problems and Dr. Glennon prescribed Baytril which is known to cause problems with cartilage in young dogs and I assume it caused my dogs problems to flair up. I am very happy my dog is okay but $483 is the most I have ever paid for a dose of antibiotics as well as the most emotional visit I ever had with a dog that was not that sick.
